Minneapolis commuter rail vehicles

Hi Trainz community!

I am currently working on an extensive trainz route with some of the planned Twin Cities commuter rail routes. I have been looking around to try and find some remotely accurate vehicles for this route. I'm not capable of building the vehicles myself and I need help either finding some on the internet, or maybe someone could build them as their latest project. If anyone is interested It would be greatly appreciated. What I really need are the Bombardier Flexity Swift LRV specifically designed for the Hiawatha LRT, the MP36s used on Northstar and the Bombardier Bilevels.

Thanks for looking at the post, and again, any help is appreciated!

Have you looked at some of the European stock? Although it may not be absolutely correct, there are some passenger cars from the Netherlands that look very much like the Bombardier Bilevels.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion. would those be ob the ds? if so, what should i type in to search for them? i dont have very much experience repainting so i would probably have to either do it myself or get someone else to do it. I'll check into those bilevels soon though :)

I found some Bombardier coaches and cab car off of the download station, used for GO transit, and Coaster trains. However, the cab has no drive controls, and there is no horn or bell, just lights. You'll have to make the horn yourself. Otherwise, I have never seen a MP36 on any download page for trainz, or light rail cars. I hope this helps. The Northstar is an awesome train; I've been on it before.:D:D:D

Hi,

For some reason when i looked on the DS I cant seem to find the Bombardier coaches. Could you tell me what key word you put in to find them?

Many thanks

Eli

Search Go transit, or Coaster. The go cars were created by magicland. BTW, the cab car has no horn, bell, and cab, so you will have to create those, as well as the MP36. Good Luck!!!
Harrison.

If I'm Lucky enough, I'll build a custom Mp36 myself. But it will take a LONG TIME!

I will be using gmax, once I learn how to use it.

DMIR... where were you when I was using MSTS...

I was planning on doing the Hiawatha LRT in MSTS, but ended up not continuing on that project when MS decided to not support it anymore...

My Youngest son and I spent 1/2 a Sunday walking and driving the route from 1st Ave and 5th St to the MOA Station before it was ever opened and they were doing all the track work..

We recorded every street/track interscetion coordinates via my garmin gps to create all the way points and to create the track work... same time, We took pictures of every building downtown.

And, I started to create the LRT trains in 3D using the Train Sim Modeler software. But, I had a complete, 2 Coach Hiawatha LRT's...

Sadly, When the Frustration of MSTS not being supported, my interest in the whole LRT project went with it...

Im going to see if I can go back into my disk storage and at least find the images that I had of the 3d model, hopefully I can perhaps find all the original 3d files as well... I did have it to the point of being able to be imported into MSTS, but was tweaking various issues with it when I stopped working on everything...

Since you have a Garmin GPS have a look at www.openstreetmap.org, it allows you to tag items of interest and also to trace roads, railways etc.

There might be a import tool for your work so far to bring it into Blender and go forward from there.

Cheerio John

I am working on a MP36, but I need to learn first. I hope to really start during spring break.

Im still looking thru boxes of disks trying to find those images...

DMIR... What areas are you working on recreating?

I have always wanted to do a Twin Cities route..

Perhaps we can team up on this..

I have decided to do the following, after I am comferable being on the forum, which I'm currently not:
Northstar Commuter Rail (MP36, with bombardier cars)
Metro Transit Light Rail
Minnesotan light's

I am learning gmax. They are undergoing, and I will update when I am comfurable on the forum. Some made me feel bad.

Note; I am having problems on the forum, so I am leaving, until someone can help me by giving a tutorial on this site.

Cheers

Sadly, I went through all my archive disks and wasn't able to find the pics I had of the LRT stuff I created..

I like you am trying to learn Blender and 3d Canvas both for Trainz and for a project for a commercial product.
I don't have a lot of time to sit and read cover to cover so I'm trying to get in what I can when I can...

Ultimately I would love to cover pretty much all the main lines for BNSF, UP, CP and CN that run through the Twin Cities then extending SE along the Mississippi to where they head off into Wisc (BNSF/CP).. NW to Grand Forks (BNSF), SW to Albert Lea and into Iowa, East into Wish through St Paul (UP) and the Skally up to Duluth and the Iron Range (BNSF/CN).

I'll put it out there that if anyone wants to combine efforts, perhaps we can make this a project thats worth while.

Im not sure how it works to have various people working on a route in regards to merging each effort... Hopefully someone can answer that without being rude and condescending...

Okay. I can provide the Northstar, an LRT, and maybe some other things.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't been on for a while. I have been busy trying to figure out the MicroDEM and HOG programmes to make realistic maps. I can't believe how many people are interested in this topic, Thanks for everything! As a reply to the teaming up to do this route, I would be happy to team up with some other Twin Cities rail fans to create this. Thanks to all who are trying to model the MP36 and Northstar Bilevels and the Hiawatha LRT cars. I'm looking forward to someday when we can all team up to make the Twin Cities in TRS

As to what I can contribute, I can contribute the HOG terrain maps and maybe some MSP buildings as soon as I figure out how to use Gmax:D

Cool... I will try to help out where ever I can... Im in the process of learning 3d and that right now so...

Anyone else interested?

Hi everyone

Started today on Duluth in TS2009. I think I've got a feel now for how to use USGS terrain maps in Trainz. I've already gotten accurate placement of track throughout the map from Sandstone to Two Harbors. Hoping to get started on the Northstar route when I go to New Mexico in two weeks. I tried using Gmax today and epic FAILED. lol So i am going to be relying on you guys to make rolling stock. I can at least provide the map!! I am trying to get a website set up for our stuff.
