There are closer than you think. Their most recent newsletter stated that they have actually raised half of the estimated funds for the restoration, and donations are still coming in. Also, remember that Friends of the 261 have about 10 passenger cars that they are regularly leasing for charters. The Railroading Heritage of Midwest America is in very good shape for rebuilding 261 again
