Hey Guys Great NEWS!! When I was at National Train Day In Union Station I Heard that the 261 Was Bought By the friends of tthe 261 and it will run again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:udrool: :D

Sadly, the news isn't all that great. Much of the money that had been originally slated for a full rebuild of the engine, had to be used to purchase it. So now they're really strapped on cash and seeking donations. As it stands now, they only have enough to do a partial restoration, but once the cash runs out; unless there are other sources of income, that's the end of it. To say that it will run again, well even they're saying they HOPE it runs again, but right now there's no certainty that she will. They're going to try though, which is a step in the right direction.

As it stands, it'll be YEARS before she sees rails under her own power once the restoration starts. That's only if she can get her boiler recert. If they can't recert the boiler, then she's as good as gone, since no insurance company would DARE let them pull passengers with it. Nine times out of ten, what kills restorations and causes locomotives to end up plinthed or even scrapped is the boiler being condemned.

They are closer than you think. Their most recent newsletter stated that they have actually raised half of the estimated funds for the restoration, and donations are still coming in. Also, remember that Friends of the 261 have about 10 passenger cars that they are regularly leasing for charters. The Railroading Heritage of Midwest America is in very good shape for rebuilding 261 again

Yes very true and they are still hoping for a return to steam in 2011. If anyone can do it. This organization can get it done.
