Memories

I first got trainz TRS2006 when due to illness I had to give up my " real " model railway.
I remember staring at a SD40 sitting in the Shelby yard and trying to make it move....without any success.
Its my first memory of trainz and if it were not for this wonderful community of trainz friends it might well have ended up in the bin in frustration as I'm not what you would call computer able !!
Over the years all my questions ( many dumb ones ) have been answered and explained by people on this forum, without whos help I'd still be sitting at shelby I suppose.
I once met the legendary C.J.Freezer some 30 yrs ago and we chatted one evening in a hotel. He said something that has stuck with me all this time, he said " You very rarely met a bad person who enjoys model railways "
I think you can update that to include trainz. A great and at times frustrating game backed up by nice people from around the world.
Anyone want to post their first memories of trainz ?
Thank you and Cheers all
PJ

I recall trying to build a route, and concocting a terrible mash up of different climates and landforms...deciduous forest straight into desert plains, unrealistic chasms and preposterous bodies of water spanned by ridiculous bridges.

That was yesterday.

About 6:30PM...:o

One of my favorite memories was when i discovered Prowler's narrow gauge creations. I have seen countless videos of them, but could never find the site. One day though, while idly searching for "Steam" on google, i came across his site by complete accident. I've never mashed the trainz start icon faster in my life. The day i took my favorite D&RGW engine, K-27 #463, out on the road, was one of the happiest moments in my trainz career.

Then the search began for a proper NG route to run them on.

I can remember being so tickled when I built my first yard and put it on the DLS. Then I went through some time where I would run Trainz or I wouldn't, had great memories beta testing TC3, then after 2009 I kind of dropped off for year. Then got back into it full blast with 2010 and TransDem and now with TS 12 and 3DS Max at it appears I'm making new memories because I'm having more fun now than I ever had.

My First content

I was mucking around building a layout on one board and I wanted some fuel tanks so I made some BP and Shell tanks. Since then I think they have been downloaded a large number of time. It was the Community edition of Trainz and it was very raw.

I remember the day when I registered, and found all of the awsome 3 party websites. What a day!

I remember when I got TRS2004 back in 2005. For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to get trains to move in Surveyor. I eventually realized that trains aren't supposed to move in Surveyor. It's only gotten better from there.:D

The early days in 2001 waiting for the first version to appear, while being tantalised by preview imagery in the 3D viewer.

The old forum with the achievement avatars...

The wit and wisdom of Barney, who loved his "Krokodils". (Where is he now!)

I remember when we went to a train show as a young kid, we saw a computer that was running Trainz 2004 with Thomas and Friends on it. I loved it so the next week one day (probably when I came home from school) my dad told me to come to him and when I got there I was so excited because I saw he was running a NYC F7 with some 60ft. PRR boxcars in DCC mode on the original Trainz. The next day I was trying to teach him cab mode.:)

Memories, blimey, there's hundreds of them.....Well, for us old devils anyway....:p

To name a couple -

Being welcomed onto the forum by Drucifer.

The great forum crash.

Alistair's passing away.

Euphod's Poop Project. :hehe:

And as this is my 3,000th post, I'll leave it there for now.

I used to work on the South Devon Railway as a Travelling Ticket Inspector and general helper-outerer at Totnes... when I first got trainz up and running I downloaded some GWR engines, the first being the locos by skipper1945... it was like stepping back onto the platforms for a while. Big cheezy grin all over my face. One of these days I'm going to build the SDR Totnes-Buckfastleigh route to be uploaded...
