Maybe a wee bit paranoid on US rail?

I agree that this has to be taken with common sense, but remember too that anything the government does here is overly complex, convoluted and exaggerated. Amtrak being a government entity, also suffers from the same. It doesn't help that we have news media that will beat to death things to a point where people don't care anymore, but until that point comes it makes the public at large very paranoid.

I agree that this has to be taken with common sense....

Someone here has already mentioned common sense? There sure seems to be a lack of it in this thread. I've been reading the shenanigans and kept myself out of this just because there doesn't seem to be common ground anywhere, just alot of people arguing over no defined or clear point of contention..... I'd be just as happy to see this thread die, unless someone wants to step up and define this thread and its point better.....

I think Falcus that you are a little wrong in that rather impulsive frown (!). No-one was going over the top and expressing reasonable opinions with equally reasonable replies so do try to avoid reading too much into anything because you would be wrong. Indeed you are slightly boreering on the impulsive instead of a proper consideration. Having raised the issue which i am just as entitled to do regarding my favourite hobby of railways I have repeatedly said I have a positive attitude on Amtrak maintaining what is left of a once massive passenger system. Just to demand closure when there so far has not been an over the top matter of people going bananas is rather over the top until someone does go, well bananas! Anyway it is a routine thread and will hopefully remain so then pass like threads do. The points have been made and there is not much else to say so thanks to those who contributed without shennanigans.

rjhowie,
You opened this thread, and I believe it was a mistake.
Terrorism, and its counterpart, security, should have no place in the relatively placid domain of the Traniz Forums. Both subjects are volatile within themselves, for a whole variety of reasons.
This is not a 'freedom of speech' issue. Simply put, there are other forums on the web more appropriately attuned to those issues reflected above; with knowledgeable folks involved.
Please lock this thread!

Although that film was som years ago it was still a dastardly situation and at the time there were a couple of bad rail matters on that line. The mindset of these terrorist is beyond our ken but that doesn't bother them. All the years I travelled over in N. Ireland especially on rail I was fortunate not to be caught in the cave-dweller mindset. The only isfortne was to be standing on Castlerock platform when a Londonderry to Belfast train came in and jumped the points to the down platform. Luckily no-one eas injured as it had slowed down. Seems the signalman rushed to cnage the points as the train him them. Surprisingly it was got back on the rails later that day.

PFX is unfortunate to have that bother and although things are not as bad as yesteryear there are still incidents happening with the one consolation (if you can call it that) the trains have been exempt.
