Marias Pass - TS2012

Don't worry dragonharh, I have as well, especially as Marias Pass X is payware and having two routes of virtually the same name is asking for trouble in some circumstances.

Yes I agree, at least call it Marias pass and beyond, or something like that.
But seeing as the HP Trainz author announced that he no longer wanted to keep the route up to date. I think it would be good for someone ells to pickup the flag and run with it. who knows it may be the best route ever, but it also could be the worst, but we won't know unless you give the fellow a chance.

In that case why not pm hP Trainz and work out an agreement or something for the route never herts to ask. It would be nice to see it updated for TR12 with better details. I just don't wont to see a good builder get in turolbe over a copyright thing even throw I feel ppl take copyrights to the extream sometimes.
I'm concerned about it too. Its No driffent then me takeing over the VIA Rail Car Project after kilanziom given up on it wish I'm on the park car nowtakeing shape.
( Keybord isn't working sorry )

I have already thought of this. HP Trainz has Marias Pass X. My route will be called BNSF Marias Pass 2013. This way the names will not be confused.

Yup! Me too.

Like all route building announcements, let's wait and see where this goes...

I sure hope he's using TransDEM for his topology and looking at Bing and Google Earth images as well as taking trips out there to see what it's really like. I'd say wait a few years because this will be a lot of work to build. That's a big area to cover and is actually quite complex content-wise. I was out there last year storm chasing and Josef and his buddies did an awesome virtual recreation.

Which is another good point as why I asked for help. I dont like using Transdem but I have alot of railway books with statistics and grade percentage. I dont know if I should make the route as one whole base or as several module bases. Any thoghts on that? However, if you all think I shouldnt make the route, or attwmpt it because I dont use transdem, let me know and I will scrap the project.

For a project such as this, TD is a necessity. Once you've gone through the tutorials, you'll find it's as complicated as you want to make it. Using the imported topographic maps and information along with the railroad grade books, statistics and other information will make this a great route. Hand sculpting something like this can be done, but you'll find this to be an arduous task, and the results are not always satisfactory. With TransDEM, the complete landscape is brought in and you can then put your track down on the route and adjust things as needed, or even have the program place track for you which all you then need to do is adjust later. This is a major timesaver, especially on a project of this scope.

Given the size of the project, modules are a necessity. This will make working on this much easier and manageable. As one section is completed, you simply merge this in with the next one and so on. Now keep in mind that if you plan on merging, ensure you are running TS12 SP1 HF3 otherwise the merge will fail. This was an issue with the initial release of TS12.

Regards,

John

I'm going to give you some wisdom I been building the same route for 6 years now and its well over 200miles ( if you count all the brach lines and sideing ) don't give up on is because some one says so or scrap if befor you even try. take your time and build your project the bust you can and everyone will be happy with it regardless I know I built Dragons Pass with much help and stell building it. If you need help feel free to ask.
I'm going to follow this project I think it will be woth seeing how it turns out.

I can't agree with you more. My Enfield and Eastern is still a WIP and I started this one back in December 2003. Over the years techniques have changed, assets have been replaced and tracks relaid in some areas, but at the same time it's still being built to its two termini which haven't been added yet. Recently, I removed a hunk of the route which always bugged me and I've replaced it with two DEMs. With a little bit of terrain blending, I've been able to match the two DEMs together without any indication that they are two disparate areas of the region.

Like you've said, taking the time is the best thing. Any creative process requires time and effort and is only ruined by rushing and skipping over details. When that burned-out feeling comes on, that's when it's time to take a break and do something else to recharge that creative spirit again.

I see where you both are coming from but considering transdem in payware I have no money nor proper internet (using my galaxy s4). But I find building the topology or topography fun. For instance I have a route I have been working on for about a few weeks, and within the 10 miles I have laid you go from the 0.0 feet to only 200 feet but with my texturing and how I make the mountains it makes it feel like you climb 6x that in elevation, kinda like an illusion. Now as for TS2012 SP1 HF3 that will never happen because I am unable to patch my game past patch 49922, and to fix said problem I have read the forums and even reinstalled my game but once I reach 49922 the patches fail. So I will go ahead and try building the route by hand since I like a challenge and I will try my hardest to get all the exact gradients correct but I will be sure to ask for help....speaking of, how do you properly make a track asset? Everytime I make one only the spline points show but the track remains invisible though I recieve no errors or warnings.

Chance, just to let you know, it's worth opening a thread in the Screenshot section as the mods will ask you to keep the size of the pictures down to a minimum on the general forum site, you can always post a link here, to build up a following.

As for asking for help at this time, you probably won't get many takers on that, as you will need to prove your worth first, if you show them your passion and commitment and the resilience to stick it out through thick and thin, and show good results. Maybe then they will be willing to help you out, but you have to show them that you will see it through to the bitter end first. Too many projects have fallen at the first hurdle and no one want's to waist there time and effort just to see it all come to nothing.

Good advice, Jonathan. This should be made a sticky.

I forgot about the screenshot thing. As for people helping. Its not that I really need help building the route, It would mostly be for help with textures like the cutbank bridge which for some reason I cant seem to find on google but its not a concern. I apologize for my ignorance about this post even though I have been a member for about 4 years(another account) I am really only used to replying to threads instead of starting them so my bad about the acreenshots.

Well I was going to update about the progress of Shelby BUT I cant do that now because TS2012 deleted all assets from the route leaving only the ground texture. To say I am angry would be an understatement. *sigh* Well time to start again. I think the problem was there was a train on a hidden layer and when I merged route layer with session layer and said train appeared I deleted it....which made my game freeze. Oh well. Maybe I can make it 2x as good as what it was I have pics so I will make a screenshot thread later. Cheers

You may wont to make a back up of this project on a thumbdive or a storage site like this one: http://www.mediafire.com/ that way is this wore to happen agen down the road you can reinstall the route for your least back up date I use this all the time and it saves alot of heaked and furstasion in the long run.
If you need anything made let me know I don't mind helping out form time to time I do get very bussey thow.

Already backed up :) I have had my TRS2006 freeze on me after hours of intense work. Im pretty good with the objectz I got now, but if I need help, tips, or advice I will be sure to ask. I will go ahead and start the screenshot thread so you would atleast be able to see the tiny bit I had done.
