hi all just wondering what to do with the map.gnd file. I have created a new dem map with a gnd with hog are they both need to be in the cmp or does one over write the other.Im useing trainz 2006 i have been all over the fourms and looked up everything there is to know and printed out everything about dem maps so how do you get the dem map into trainz 2006 useing the cmp

thanks

DEM

Not realy sure...but I would think that your route DEM file would all be grouped together, for easy exporting, in the same general file location(s)...and not spread out all over several other files...hopefully someone else will know more.

G'day repairdude22000,

In the past, when I have sent any completed DEM requests I have received to their 'owner' on CD or in the form of the entire Trainz "World/Custom/Maps/ "file" folder (and it's contents) and they were using TRS 2006, I would advise them to copy the entire folder onto the desktop and use CMP to commit it from there. However, in your case where you have only the *.gnd file with which to work, I can only suggest that you create a new map in TRS 2006 (in the normal manner) and overwrite the *.gnd file thus created with the one that you have from HOG (make sure your replacement file is named exactly the same as the one alreday in the folder). It will overwrite without any issues at all and the next time you open Trainz, the 'new' *.gnd file should provide the appropriate terrain on the map...

gnd files

Hey repairdude:
I don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for but going to this link will show exactly what you have to do to generate your own gnd file
http://www.virtualrailroader.com/DEM-Trainz.pdf. Before going through this tutorial you need to open a new trainsboard session in Surveyor. All you should have after that step is 1 solitary trainsboad. Give it a name. Save it. That will be the name of your route. Close totally out of trs2006. Open CMP. Find the name of the route you just created Open it for Edit. close cmp Then create your Gnd file. Put the gnd file in a file where you can find it. rename it mapfile.gnd. copy it. Then go to C://program files/Auran/trs2006/editing\<the name of the route you created in surveyor>. Take the file you copied paste it into the file you just opened. If everything was done correctly you should get a popup asking if you want to replace the file <the name of the route you created in surveyor>with the one you are trying to paste. click yes. Rename the other files the same name except for the extenion if they don't already have the right name. By default you will have 4 or 5 files named mapfile.(extention) including a gnd file. It is the default gnd file that you want to replace. If you name your new file anything different than mapfile you want to rename it to the file you have ready for pasting. IE mapfile.brk Close Explorer. Open CMP and commit the route you just edited. Open surveyor open the route you just created. It should have the terrain specified by the gnd file you generated with HOG. Hope this helps

Microdem should have created a folder C:\mapdata. Tiger data goes in C:\mapdata\tiger\XX where XX is the standard two-letter USA state abreviation...

G'day repairdude22000,

If you installed HOG in accordance with and following the instructions strictly word for word, then there should be a file called "textures.txt" (note the plural spelling) located in the %HOG% root folder on your Hard Drive. If it isn't there (as indicated by the message), you need to create it. In your case, this is easy to do by simply copying the file called "hog_tiger.txt" (which should be in the "%HOG%/Presets" folder) into the HOG root folder and renamimg it. If it is actually there, then the other possibility is that you are telling HOG to look in the wrong place for this file. When you tell HOG where to create the *.gnd file, it must be in a location where there is a copy of the "textures.txt" file AND the "tile_blank.dat" file (this latter is a MUST). To save moving these files all around the place, I ALWAYS tell HOG to create the *.gnd file in the HOG root folder, itself and then move the *.gnd file to where I need it.

...mind you, none of this is neccessary when using the excellent alternative to this method...

...TranzDEM...
