Making TRS2004 routes work in TS12

Now that we're all confused and we've confused you...and the fact that you're not giving us all the details at once which is making this D-R-A-G --- O-N --- F-O-R---A-G-E-S. This is like we're playing "King's Quest", or "Zork". I have a lamp... walk.... and walk...., found a key....LOL!

How did you receive this route?

Is it in a zip file?

Is it a RAR?

The files, if they're in a compressed format such as these have to be uncompressed first. Use 7Zip for both - it reads RAR files too.

Once the route file(s) has/have been extracted, you can then simply import this into TS12 using the file-import from the menu.

Believe me. It works. I've downloaded and installed many older routes such as the older ones on USLW and many other places. Whether the route works for you, well that's another story.

Actually, it's a CDP file downloaded directly from the DLS.

That's easy then.

Open up the file menu in Content Manger.

Choose Import CDPs...

Browse to where it was downloaded to.

Click on it. and hit Ok.

The file will be imported.

Now, coming from the DLS... shouldn't that have come into Content Manager already?
It may have errors and missing dependencies, but that's easy to fix.

The problem is, when I try to play it, it's only shown as an empty world. Ya know, no boards or anything.

Okay... This is a different story. Now we're getting somewhere.

Does the route show any missing dependencies?

How about the sessions? Is that broken? That happens sometimes when coming into TS12. This has something to do with a broken region and date in the config.txt file. N3V is aware of this bug as I reported it just as they came out with their last patch.

The other possibility is the stuff is on a different layer than the one you are seeing. Go into Surveyor and have a check around and check the layers.

Again, I've done this quite a few times with few issues other than some missing items and the weird region and date error.

Well, there is one error:

Warning: Required tag 'region' was missing and has been set to default.

Do you know how to fix this?

Also, here's a picture:

In TRS04 a route that was missing the sky used to load like that. I have no way of knowing if a TRS04 route loaded into TS12 and missing a sky loads the same, but it's a quick check!

Te region thing you should be able to fix in-game from Main Menu > Edit Route > Geographical Region, but that's just a warning and shouldn't cause any issues....

So, does that mean I must make a sky?

Forget the sky for the moment and try this:

I am pretty sure you have something significant missing.

Open TS12 Content Manager.

Is there a yellow question mark icon beside the route name in your installed assets list?

If there is not one, post back that you have no missing content.

If there IS a yellow question-mark icon right-click the route name and choose 'View Dependencies'. That will give you a missing dependency report. If anything is listed as DLS, get it all and install it all. If anything is listed simply as a kuid number post that list here. Those will be 'unknown' kuids and you might need help finding them.

It's not getting easier!

I just downloaded and installed the route into TS10 and it loads without issue. Everything is DLS except a hornsound which I edited out for something I had. The hornsound won't effect the route loading. Not in any way bagging the route, but it is an old route built in an old version and although nothing is broken the old content will look pretty ordinary in TS12! TS10 Native does the route no favours!

As far as I can see if you have the route and the content it should load. Post a screencap from CM showing the entry for the route....

I just tried downloading the route and only found the sessions. What is the exact name?

John

EDIT: Doh.... I'm brain dead. I found it!

The route is called Ongar.

I downloaded and installed it fine. I had all the dependencies except for on bridge.

Ensure you have all the dependencies. The route didn't even show any faults in my TS12.

It's not a case of last time I checked... - it's an absolute - either you do or you don't!

At least two people trying to help have gone to the extent of downloading and installing the route in two different versions of Trainz to establish that there is no route or content error and everything works as it should.

Please post a CM screencap showing the entry for the route. If you don't know how to do that - ask....

One other thing just occurs - going back to the start of the thread, you are trying the route exactly as downloaded aren't you? You haven't edited trainzbuild tags or anything? Because that WILL break it....

I've never heard of an entry for a route.

Also, I just open things in CCP and the build changes automatically.

Simple answer here, don't use CCP. It is a mindless monster. Use 'open for edit in Windows' if you need to do any work. This way you only get the changes the you need.
