Making TRS2004 routes work in TS12

Alright guys, is it possible to make TRS2004 routes work in TS12? Before you say it's impossible, believe it or not, routes for TRS2006 have worked in my TS12. So, if TRS2006 routes work in TS12, will TRS2004 routes also work in TS12?

Hello

If you know how to find and up-date / repairing errors assets go for it!

Ya know, I did update the build number to 3.3, or was it 3.1? But either way, it didn't help. Do you know how to do it?

all the content need to be updated & fixed if has errors & maybe already updated versions on the DLS so best thing to do is cdp the map from 2004 then load cm on 2010/12 then install the map then download all content again do not use content from old versions of trainz it's best to redownload them to lessen the errors as you may have edited a content in the past & put them in may give you a error in the newer versions of trainz

Thanks for the advice. The only problem is, the computer I'm currently using doesn't have space and no others are available, so I can't install TRS2004.

If 2012 is anything like 2010, you don't even need to do that - as in 2010 CMP can also install content that is a folder/directory format and not just CDP format. In CMP, from the toolbar on the top, click 'File' and 'Import Content' and point it to the folder of the route/loco/scenery etc you want to install. I've used this very method to transfer all my old 1.3/2004 routes/content into 2010 so I know it works at least in 2010. ;)

If there are any errors in the content it's installing, it will probably alert you to that upon installation though, which would be highly likely if installing old Legacy content.

The biggest issue you will come across is that you will have to rename all the files in the asset's folder (apart from the config.txt and any image files) into the mapfile.xxx format (xxx means it's current extension) before it will work correctly at a higher build.

You don't need to rename files, change build numbers or anything! A route out of TRS04 either in cmp format or simply dragged out of the world/custom directory will install straight into later versions. It may show warnings (thumbnails, build number etc) but will have no errors. The file structure and build number will get sorted out in the first save. If you doubt it grab any of my older 04 routes from checkrail - they will install without error and they are straight out of 04.

The route CONTENT is another matter - much of it may be faulty - but that's another question all together....

I agree with Andy. The route should come in okay. There maybe issues with no thumbnail, but the content should come in okay. I've done this quite a few times. In fact my mega-route is a carry over from TRS2004 all the way through each of the versions of Trainz I have used, except for TC1&2.

You may at some point, consider replacing assets that aren't quite as good as the newest ones. This is no reflection on the hard work by they content creators. It's just the modeling techniques have gotten better over the years, and the model creation programs are better such as Blender, for example. You may want to replace the older splines too because don't work well in the newer versions of Trainz.

The reason I stated about renaming the files is because the OP said they had changed the trainz-build value to a higher number.

Shane

You don't! You don't rename anything, you don't change build number, you don't touch a thing.

EITHER - save the route to cdp from TRS 04 - OR - quicker and easier simply drag the route folder out of your 04\world\custom folder onto the desk top,

THEN

Drag whichever of the options you used above into TS12 Content Manager's main window.

Done.

As Dermmy has stated, under normal circumstances you shouldn't need to rename the files unless you've also altered the trainz-build number (which if you have, I'd advise that you change it back to 2.4)

Out off confusion' where is the 04/world/custom folder?

Except TRS2004 isn't installed on the computer I'm using.

You still have the information backed up to disk, right?

Simply import using the import in Content Manager. It will import the content whether the program is installed or not. Just remember not to overwrite any existing content in TS12. This is the same process as importing content from backup folders in TS12

Sadly, TRS2004 was never installed on the computer I'm currently using. TRS2006 was, but for some reason, it always crashes before it even starts.
