Mac versions?

I have a very eager child who loves trains. I just purchased the 2009 version. I know it's not compatible with my current system. I may be getting a special computer for him to play. I am wondering, though, if there will be Mac version at some point.

Thank you:)

They had a version out for testing at one time but never released it. I don't think it will ever come back. Shame, I'm on a Mac a well and would like a version of Trainz for it.

Do you have an Intel Mac? I'm running Trainz through boot camp on a Macbook Pro and it runs very well. (TRS2006 & TC1&2) Not sure about TRS2009 as I don't have it.

Dave..

i have an intel mac with boot camp and boot camp annoys the crap out of me cuz my antivirus thinks its a virus and every two seconds prompts me to take action on it

There are a few programs that can allow you to run Windows on a mac and therefore run Trainz. Two of them are called Boot Camp (as already mentioned) and VM Fusion. I believe with one of the programs out there you have to get an anti-virus software for it because it's not secure, although I don't know which one it is. The other ones can run fine without any anti-virus software.

Fusion is alright but it's video drivers aren't that great. My version only has support for SVGA video. Plus, it only uses 128MB of my 256MB video card. What I have done is install XP on Fusion and loaded up all my anti virus on that. When I download I use that to scan for viruses then transfer it to my boot camp partition where Trainz is installed on a separate XP install with no anti virus at all.

Windows installed on either runs just like any normal install of windows and needs anti virus. Since my boot camp partition never goes on line I don't need it there and everything runs a lot smoother without it.

skol, what anti virus are you using?

Dave....

the other is called parallels
with boot camp if you run out of space on your hard disk your screwed because you cant repartition it

Mac version

I had a mac that is not intel, so I'm going to get one so that both of us can play. My current computer/desktop is a g5 with 10.5. I will also need to get windows software. Should I get xp or vista? The new computer will have boot camp on there.

Thank you for your response.

Maybe they will produce one that is for Macs only. I would be great.:)

Hi Squirrel605,
I use XP with SP2. It's more than enough for me. Most of what I do is available for Mac. The only reason I have Windows is for my Trainz and MSTS addiction. Hopefully someone who knows more about XP and Vista will chime in.

Parallels, that's the other one. I forgot about it. Have you ever used it? I hate that fixed partition with boot camp. I like Fusion but I can only use TRS2004 with it and TC runs like a slide show.

Dave...

I have iMac and run all Trainz games on "Bootcamp".....

....which has been very good. Recently installed Fusions and removed it because it messed up my computer. Buyer beware, Fusions support worthless.

This subject comes up every few months. The Auran folks should make a stickie that has instructions on how to run Trainz on a Mac.

I have heard of people installing windows os on their mac systems... Perhaps once you have done that, you can run trainz like that. Just something you could look into and research a bit....
