lowering a camera in hilly terrain

In TS12, is there a way to place the line-side cameras closer to the ground in hill terrain? In flat country there isn't a problem but when there is an embankment on one side of the track, the camera doesn't want to get closer to the ground than about 7.5m in the air. Holding the down arrow just causes camera jitters.

Back in TRS2004 I remember after placing a camera using the camera placement tool, I could move it around using the scenery tab tools. This doesn't work any more.

Is there now another way?

Annoying isn't it..........

I have found a rather drastic way of doing it, dig a hole or lower the area where you want the camera, shove the camera at whatever height and then raise the ground level to what is was, the camera remains where you put it.

A bit tedious it you are prone to moving cameras around though.

Definitely something that needs looking at.

Hi,

The use of the Scenery move button was lost when TS2009 came along, and I have spent the years after that with every update to Trainz hoping the Powers To Be (PTB) to have make it available again as a way to move the camera.

Alas, whatever was "broken" before TS2009 which allowed this trick, has been fixed for good and seems to never ever come back as a built in tool for the tracking camera. :'(

I so wish PTB would allow a better tool, or remove that large bounding box stopping the tracking camera from reaching the ground in hill country. I been nagging about this ever since I saw it in TS2009 and on the TrainzDev Forum when we had that, but it seems I was the only one bugged by it so nobody cared it seemed.

I'm glad to see others share the frustration with placing tracking cameras, I hate the up in the air look, I want to be near the ground, at eye level, and I loved the old trick and miss it greatly and share the wish I see others now have to have some sort of that kind of tool back - please?

My work around is similar to clam1952, except I save a copy of my map, level the ground in about a 500 meter radius at the area I want the camera, about 1 meter lower then I need, then put in the cameras I need, save and exit out of Trainz.
Then I open for Edit in Explorer my map and the copy of the map, put the *.obj in my map in a safe place and copy over the *obj from my copy, commit the maps and enter my main map again to check if the camera did end up in the place I needed.
If I somehow messed it up - it happens as it is so cumbersome to keep track of the ground where it was when I have leveled it, I start all over again...

I miss the old trick with the Scenery button, so much faster, easier, better, please PTB, can we get it back, please!! :udrool:
