thanks john,

with internet you never really know where servers are LOL and just because this site shows posts as per my date and time zone also dosent mean thats right either LOL. Here in Aussie we often have issues with slow connections to USA servers but in last few years has been better as they seem to not ONLY route across the Pacific now but also go West through Europe and across the Atlantic. According to my IP traces i do from time to time. Also i would be curious to know how much goes via satellite these days and what sort of inbuilt delay that creates. In 2000 when i was in East Timor a sat phone call had a 2 sec delay on it each way same for the internet which was all going through satellite but the Cell phones were hooked through a different system and there was no delay there using the brand new cables they laid from Aussie to ET

Cheers

I agree it is difficult knowing where the servers are located with the current speeds we have. It really is amazing how all this works. Back in the late 1980s, I worked for Infinet, later Teleglobe and then Memotec as they changed names. This company was one of the pioneers of the TelStat and was responsible for the TransAtlantic link between Nova Scotia and Europe. Infinet made the TELCO switching equipment, dialup modems, and other communications equipment. Now this is all gone having been absorbed by Canadian Bell in the early 1990s. During my time at the company, I repaired the equipment to the component level and later worked in MIS and engineering as a bench tech. They used Sun Workstations with special cards in them to connect to the modems and equipment. When a board failed, an indicator light would show up on the remote console and the cards could be replaced. This technology is still used today and has only been improved on with the increased speeds and quality of service.

Ironically I wasn't having problems last week, never boring this Trainz lark is it ;)

Well said, Malc.

Actually I think the internet works like a hot water heating system. You had no problems last week since you had all the water. Now this bubble has moved along through the system and is blocking a main junction somewhere so others are having issues. I actually had this problem with my forced hot water system and had to bleed the pipes. I was getting no heat upstairs, while the downstairs was blasting hot.

I am using Firefox. The text changed the day before yesterday while I was reading a post.
Because it is smaller text and bold it is harder for me to read and causes eyestrain with prolonged use.
cheers,
Mike

Mike.

When you set your font size in firefox make sure to set it to use your font settings only as by default it will allow a site to use its own settings not yours

Good Morning All
Thank you everyone for reporting this. Our team will be looking into it, and will give the server a kick, when they get into the office.

Did you assign people yet to do regular kicks during your Christmas break?
We have had problems in the past with DLS and website during the times you are not in the office (like weekends and Christmas break), so planning a solution ahead for that time when people are on break and want to use both would be great :)
