London Euston to Watford Junction (High Speed Semi-Fictional) - Newbie!

are you from the Cambridge area by any chance?
LCH
Yup. Travel to it most days. My 'home' line is my next project which will join onto this route north of Cambridge.

chris rose, yes, was thinking of replacing all the track with that one. Just waiting for the right moment that I feel like ripping up each section of track piece by piece, then having to replace all the signals etc... or is there a quicker way?

They are reskins of the original orange SNCF TGV. They are meant to be rough, temporary stand-ins for Eurostars until someone makes them, though I'm not sure if anyone is. If someone is making a Eurostar, and sees this, post in.

Oh, and to answer the post above this, I don't think there is a quicker way. I did this once for about 30 boards of double track including one six-platform station and EMU stabling yard. It didn't take that long to do this and replace the signs/signals. I found it helped, actually, as many of my speed signs needed changing, and some of my signals needed moving/altering.

Hello Paul, all I can say about your projects and screenshots of said projects is wow, wow and WOW. You've obviously hidden your talents away from us all and we welcome guys like you with open arms into our Trainz community. Please don't give up what you have started, if you need some encouragement, we will all give it to you. :hehe: Seriously though, some creators have uploaded incomplete routes onto the DLS before to give the rest of us the chance to finish them off to our liking, it is up to you as to whether you would do this or not.
The point about the trackwork is highly relevant as the MP wood is lo-poly and used extensively on high density layouts such as yours would be hugely benficial regarding frame rates. If you have Vistamap and Trainz Objectz installed on your TRS2004 you can change your tracks using this piece of advice on this website www.sectionshed.com/english/Tutorial/objectrep.html however, as was also mentioned, this works well ONLY for double-track, single tracks cannot be replaced, so I am lead to believe, and of course anything attached to the tracks, such as signals, track markers, etc, will also disappear when you hit the delete button, so please be careful, I personally used a blank baseboard to experiment on, better than losing a whole layout if things went pear-shaped. :hehe:

Good Luck for your future ventures.

Someone is indeed making a Eurostar, he is also making le shuttle, he would be the illusive JB:)
There is a log somewere on this forum for the le Shuttle.

aha....Cambridge is my home town. I was dragged up there!

I currently live in a village very close to the old Cambridge - St. Ives line. In fact, I can see the track bed out of my bedroom window....as it's turned into a Guided Bus route!

Thank you for your kind comments and tips. I definitely intend to 'upgrade' the track as suggested, but will probably do it manually, section by section so that I don't forget where the signals and trackside objects should be.

I was thinking of putting the London-Watford route on DLS unfinished, but I've decided I at least want to finish the catenery and basic textures (at least ballast all the way), before then. Cambridge-Huntingdon may well be in a fit state for DLS before then, in which case I might put that up too.

LCH, don't talk about the mis-guided bus route!!! It makes me so annoyed that they're destroying a perfectly adequate rail corridor.

Hello!

Came across this thread, and this route really caught my eye. Excellent work, Paul!

My birth city is Cambridge & lived there until late 70's - my house was on west side of junction & stock yards at Chesterton. Still remember when the little green shunters went back and forth in the yard and deltics passing every day. Then I was in Histon for a year before I got dragged to Canada.

I have 2006 version & very interested in this route - wondering if or how it's possible to convert. Also, I'm willing to provide any help/info on this route if you need it. Plus, what are the chances of obtaining an early copy of the route to play with?

Cheers,
Alan

More London Euston

Happy new year all, and here are some more shots from my London Euston layout. I have since upgraded to '06 and have set my main aims to get done: track (done, apart from some upgrades I want to do); catenery (15% and need to replace catenery in the station as I used the wrong supports); and texturing (25% done) for the entire route as far as Watford Junction. Then will consider releasing it for anyone who wants to take it further.

Hopefully you can see the progress since the older shots in this thread, plus I now have Pendolinos of course!

(Will start a new thread for my Cambridge route as I have some more screenshots of that too - here it is).

All images 800 x 600. Captions beneath pics as usual.

Showing my imaginary "re-built" Euston station. (The extra long platforms are intended for TGV-style trains as I've mentioned in previous posts).

Same again.

Paul,

Your routes look great...my kids would love the Euston/Watford etc. route as we're on that line a bit further up!!!

Can I ask you 2 questions...

1 - I've looked for Pendolino (obviously in the wrong place!)...where did you get them?

2 - We've just started with TRS, and my route building skills will take years to get to your level...are you intending to release your routes on DLS (or elsewhere) at some point?

Cheers,

Nige

Can I ask you 2 questions...

1) It's not on DLS as far as I know. I found the link on this post. The Pendolino is freeware, but does need you to hunt down some missing dependencies via the content manager, all of which I got from DLS.

2) Yes, eventually. I am trying to finish the 'basics' of the layout, although it won't be in great detail, particularly further out of London. Then I am thinking I'll put it out as 'version 1' of the route, albeit unfinished. I have no timescale though, as I've just been off work for 2 weeks and spent plenty of time on Trainz but now back to work!

Thanks for your interest!

Thanks Paul...I now have the Pendolino and all the dependencies.

Can you tell me what the route and session for consists and save consists are for...don't you insert the assets into a route in the normal way?

I presumed they were just an example consist which can then be added by the user to their consist list. I just made my own by inserting the carriages in the normal way, as you say.

Good to see you are still going. Keep it up. :)

You won't be the first to attempt a "bigger than you can do route", and you won't be the last.

I have been here since 2001, and have 2 such routes still in construction.

Although I think I have just realized that half the fun is running-testing your unfinished routes.

To get rid of the swotch points, turn simple controls off in the pop-up bar @ the top.

PM me when this gets near completion on your part please, as I may finish it depemding on how much time I have in the future.

Thx
