Out of curiousity, have you tried the DVD in another machine just in case it is the drive. I've had this happen before where a drive was marginal enough so it couldn't read particular discs. If this isn't the case, send a note to the helpdesk, and report that you have a bad disc.

Welcome to the Trainz forums and the very addicting world of Trainz!

Well I do Believe it is a Drive issue I tried it on anothe PC and it read it NP's??

This can happen when the drive head gets dirty. I would NOT recommend using a cleaning disk, they can destroy the drive totally, take it to a computer tech and ask him to clean it and test it.

It's probably less expensive to replace the DVD drive. They only cost $25 at NewEgg.

I dont have any problems with any other disk besides this one?? I was curious does Trainz use any sort of Securerom feature or similar??

Auran doesn't use Suck-You Rom, thank god!

I'd replace the drive with a new one. The new DVD R/W drives are about $25, and are really easy to put in.

WEll I have tons of Bills right now and getting a new DVD rom is Out for at least another month :(

Has anyone else ran into install problems with this Drive and Trainz??

Hi Nephilin,

Yes I had the same problem with a Lite-on DVD/RW don't know the model number right now. What I did to get over the problem right away was copy the Trainz disk to a new DVD+R in my other computer then install from the new DVD. As I know enough about hardware I then removed the offending drive, stripped it and cleaned the head, refitted it to my main computer and I am still using it. Note:- a little drop of accetone on a cottonwool bud is good for cleaning, do not use anything abraisive.

Cheers,

Yet another (& same problems) with the brand of Lite-ON DVD drives. And nope, in my opinion, I would NOT recommand Lite-ON.

I have meant several people all with the exact same problem with their DVD recorders.

While it is up to you, in this case, I would agree with JCitron.

While you seemed to have solved your issue, this is for others. As I stated in an earlier post in this thread after several issues (& the same issue confirmed by others), I would highly recommend that people DO NOT use LiteON products.

Oh good, I spelt "recommend" properly first go - for once!

I got burned by them many years ago and forgot about them until this thread resurfaced. ;)

I had a brand new CD drive go BUZZZZ on me when I put in discs. It worked, but buzzed. The drive lasted about a month before I tossed it. It was less aggrevating to buy a new one than it was to go back to the store and return the old one. The place where I purchased the original drive, would only replace products with the same product. It wasn't worth it going back and arguing over a $25 CD drive.
