Line ahead is unsignalled...

I'm hoping someone can help with this issue. I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple of days with no luck.
I've isolated the problem to this spot as you can see by the two pics. I'm surprised it's not at a spline point. I've seen this before at a faulty spline point but never between spline points. I've replaced the track and deleted the spline point in the pic and still get the same results.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No answer, yet...but I've noticed this same sort of thing in 2010. If given a drive command, locos will stop at these signals for no apparent reason. If given a "drive to" command, the message "no path..." pops up. Normally, one would expect to find a broken spline point, but I can drive past these signals to my destination with no derailments, so there is apparently some phantom "disconnect" or something giving a faulty indication at play here.

Well that's great because that pretty much ruins the whole route I've been working countless hours on. There's got to be a work around or fix. My route has about 25 miles of single track preceding this point. None of my locos will even leave the yard making all 25 miles useless. I haven't noticed this behavior it on any other routes though.

By the way I'm using 2009.

Do you have any pusher locos or track direction markers?

The pushers IF you have them coupled will break the session and the only way i found around it was to delete the session the track direction markers would give no path and other strange issues but could be removed and everything went back to normal...

That part I highlighted by size and colour above in the quote gave me a clue as I too have had similar although it was after I merged two routes. I can manually drive over the fault but not by a "drive to" command and also receive a "no path" pop up message.

I found the fault was missing track although I can manually drive the route without a derailment so the track is not actually missing but the signal system thinks it is missing.

To locate the "so called" missing track section, view the track in surveyor mode using "Mini Map" that is really zeroed in close up. A bit of the blue track line will be missing so find that gap in the blue line and just redo that section of track. Remove the track that is actually already in place and redo the track. It will take a few attempts as the problem will move around in the local area so check the local area for other gaps using the map mode.

When we made sessions for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway we had a somewhat similar problem. The DHR is unsignalled over it's entire length of 50+ miles. We found that the normal locos would not travels faster than half speed, due, we were told, to the lack of signals. The problem was fixed by increasing the 'mass' of the loco assigned to the sessions by a factor of 10. From then on all the speed signs were obeyed.

As I said, not quite the same but it may provide a clue.

signals function by performing a tracksearch for items along the line. they look for vehicles (trains), junctions, other signals, trackside objects (speedposts and stuff, but the signal is really trying to find a direction marker), and scenery with track (signal looks for portals). if it finds none of these, and if it didnt find anything else along the way then the signal concludes that it ran out of things to look for and will give the unsignalled message. if the last thing it can see is a junction it will say that the line terminates or is closed. your problem probably would have cleared up if you just added more scenery or some trackside items, just something for the signal to keep looking through. as far as i know tracksearches are continuous until they hit the next segment, so any one thing added or changed should stop the unsignalled message form appearing.

Petan: you are on to something here... there are missing portions of track
in the minimap view that actually show up as track in surveyor. I have replaced those sections and some adjoining sections. They no longer show as "missing " in minimap. Will test this weekend...

Indeed there are invisible signals, one named, yes, "Invisible Signal". They should solve your problem.

More signals won't work because of cornfield meets. I need approx 17 miles of single unsignalled track to avoid these cornfield meets.

I think Norfolk is onto something here. His detailed explanation makes perfect sense and I have not one track side item between this 17 mile stretch. I'll try adding a simple speed sign and post back.
 
What message do you get off the signal (facing the opposite direction) at the other end of this single track section ?
I was going to suggest a passing loop but you don't want one. You may have to give a bit on this one.
 
I have yet to try Dermmy's suggestion in the link I provided above.

@Norfolk - I tried the speed signs and that might have solved part of my problem, but how do you explain this? There is clearly a 2nd signal in the background. Ideally I don't won't the 2nd signal there in the background. I just placed it there for demonstration.

Note that this is the beginning of the long 17 mile stretch with no signals. I did add some speed signs though.

The junction lever you show in your screenshot is set to the straight-through position. What happens if you throw it to the spur?

Just the opposite. The searchlight signal on the left reads unsignalled ahead and the dwarf signal to the right reads no train approaching. Something else that might provide a clue, I just confirmed I'm getting the same unsignalled ahead at the other end of the single track with the signals facing the opposite direction.

I suspect it still has something to do with the long stretch of single track in the foreground. I've been building routes since 2004 and never seen this but I'm not sure I've had a single stretch of track this long in the past.

I tried adding speed signs and even building a loop down line but I'm still getting the same results.

Put a loco down and go into driver and see what happens. Tell Ai to drive past far side of single track. Slap a t/mark down.

The track unsignalled is because you dont have a signal before it goes back to double track at the far side.

The AI won't drive through the signal and and I have a right diverging signal at the other end of the single track.
 
OK this is crazy. I deleted the track beyond the turnout as you can see circled in red in the distance and placed a end of track marker there.

I'm still getting unsignalled ahead on both signals. How can this be? Is this a 2009 thing?
