Lighting Questions?

Will shadows density (grey to black) be set by weather? Solid black is weird.

Will real weather become available?

Will lighting illuminate objects as well as ground?

Dick,

I have been asking about the lighting effects since Methuselah was a lad. \in one of my replies last week I got the feeling that nothing going to happen about really decent lighting for a good long while.

Gut reaction ios that hell will probably freeze over first. But I have been wrong before. Once in 1983 and again oncve in 1991.

Tony did mention that they are working on the lighting engine, but whenever they're done working on it is another story. Among the improvements will be pointed light sources so we can have actual lights on platforms and from objects, and not have to rely on light cone objects which we've used since the early days.

Something needs to be done about the "shine" off terrain and object textures. I just took a spin on my old Sulitjelma route and overall it is transformed into something wonderful. However at certain angles there is so much reflection off the track you can't even see the sleepers or ballast - just looks like a silver strip. Have noticed similar issues in Surveyor.

I have got the overall picture quality similar to the new era, however when a train is on the track the train is normal color on one side but when I do a 360 the other side color is almost black. Strange.

for those playing at home.. the "No shadow" settings:
Ambient = white
Sun = black
Brightness = ~50% (adjust to suit)
Choose a cloudy sky
Add some fog
>> Typical English day is born :)
