Lets predict Trainz 2011

Windwalkr

I am glad to see that you agree with my premiise that TRAINZ is much more than just a Railroad Simulator. I also agree that to produce an educational or even repackaged version would be quite a task.

I am also sad that you are the only one that thas picked up on this post as I had also hoped that others would realise that with a little effort on the part of the TRAINZ community there are many individuals out in the world that would be interested in software that would allow them to persue their fantasies or stimulate their imagination, but would never relate it to a railroad simulator. Word of mouth is still the best marketing tool known to man.

Ah well I tried.

Cheers.

I predict the main focus will be on Graphics and Sound Quality of Locomotives. Athough Trainz is my favourite train simulation the graphic and sound quality is not as good as Rail Works or Rail Simulator in my opinion.

Here are some ideas for what i think would be good in Trainz 2011:
Real Life Monorail or Tram System
Real Life Heritage Railway (Like when the West Sommerset Railway was done)
A busy inter-city route
A rural route in modern image

Hi Everybody.
After all the side tracks let's get back on topic. The question was what would we predict would be in 2011. Well I predict that 2011 will be the greatest train simulator ever created and years ahead of any of its rivals. This will be brought about by major structural changes at Auran culminating in them moving from Australia.

The trigger for all this will be the outcome of the greatest sporting tournament known to the human race, the football world cup. As the England team lifts the Jules Vern trophy at the end of the tournament the first doubts will creep into the Auran senior management minds as to whether they should relocate to the world's chosen nation.

The event that will finally make up Aurans minds regarding relocation will be the outcome of that far lesser sport that is held only among a minority of nations, that strange game that they call cricket. Morale amongst the Australian nation will sink to an all-time low as they watch England win that strange vase of ashes later this summer.

These double blows will send Auran and its employees scuffling to relocate in England finally settling here in somerset where the beauty of their surroundings and the warm heartedness and intelligence of its inhabitants will lift the Auran employees to new levels of imagination and creativity bringing forth the greatest Trainz simulator ever created.

The first thing everyone will notice will be the realism. When you pull away in your favorite coal-fired iron horse, real steam will hiss from the sides of your monitor. As you accelerate to maximum speed in your favorite DMU, real diesel fumes will come from the fan vents of your PC, and as you head toward your favorite multi-platform station drawing huge electric current from the third rail, the lights will flicker in your computer room as you cross the points.

The success of this simulator will place Zec Murphy and Chris in the same salary bracket as Bill Gates. The waiting list for even the download of this Trainz version will have people waiting to purchase right through until 2013.

All the above I predict will happen due to the crowning of this English nations sporting heroes in the coming weeks.

Bill:hehe:

I noticed that, just didn't say anything. You're surrounded by railnuts, and that's the main passion here. But, yes, Trainz pretty much has the potential to be a world simulator. Perhaps with the proper scripting or some additional code you could make it into SimCity 5 or Flying Dinosaurs in Space or whatever. It's a versatile program, to be sure. Heck, I'm finishing up my first mini-layout and it doesn't have trainz anywhere on it! But don't be dejected because most of us here on this board are using it for its original purpose.

It certainly made and interesting canal and coastal ship simulator when I used to use it. Set in 1830 in an age before trains. Also of course horse drawn barges and narrow boats. You will find the content and routes on the DS but made for 2004. As I have no further interest in Trainz I won't be updating anything so...they may vanish in Sept. or therafter or whenever Auran decrees, should anybody be interested. Incidentally I have transferred my interests to the Blender Game Engine. Further details on that can be found in the UKTS ship forum including using srtm2 data for Blender terrain meshes user name precar.......... Barry.

I've been thinking about this one before responding back, Happyj and by the time I went looking for the post, the thread moved on to 7 pages! There is some great potential with the program as an educational tool because of the way the industries can be setup to react with each other, and by the way that the terrain can be modeled in a realistic fashion.

Perhaps your teacher and school principal will be able to do something with this idea if you re-present it again at the beginning of the fall semester.

RRSignal is correct though. There needs to be some kind of additional scripting, perhaps on the line of what's used with the Razorback Railway. If this is the case, then the interactive industries can have an affect on the local towns with economic and environmental impact, for example.

This one might be controversial but why not also enhance the ability to drive the roadways? Given that Trainz (with the backing power of Transdem) is a mighty 3D mapping tool, there are plenty of places where the trains don't go. Many, many years ago I went to Tenerife on my honeymoon. In between the other, ahem, interests one of the trips we made was up the winding road to Mt. Teide. Most fascinating, particularly the transition from the lush territory into the more volcanic regions. You'd probably never get a railway up those hills and bends - even ng - but the opportunity to recreate the road journey (and the trip down the other side to Playa de Americas, which we never did) would be very nice.

Vern

There are several road splines that have built in invisible track that allow you to do what you propose already on the DLS. I don't remember the kuids but a little search on the DLS should give something or perhaps someone else reading this post will provide more info.

Happy trainzing.

As interesting as that might be, considering the tight curves and rapid elevation changes possible in roads, I think we would need even an even smaller grid than the 5m we have today. Plus get ready for massive maps as routes sizes will grow by another order of magnitude. But it would be fun.

Uhhmmm I think not. Auran is moving to South Africa, reasonable property prices, eager talented developers and cheap beer = more money to spend on Trs 2011. It will also be the end of First Class Tickets as all internet from .za is equally slow.:)

Seems I have the last say on this issue, must be true then, Auran is relocating to SA. Bafana draw with Mexico earlier this afternoon, referring to another minority sport, the Springboks will beat the Chickens tomorrow afternoon and TRS 2011 will be what every body whished for since TRS 2006, it's all true.

I hope trainz 2011 will have the whole metro north commuter rail road, the njt, nec, and nyc subway system. The graphics should be even better than 2011. :)

Hey guys; hate to break it to you this way, but there isn't going to be a TS2011.
There will probably be a 2012 if Auran is still around, and if the world is still in existence:hehe:
Actually, the 2012 version will be released the day before the end of the world:
December 20, 2012!
It will have every feature that we all have been dreaming of, will run perfectly right out of the box, and on even an old P4 single core system with only 1GB RAM and a mediocre video system.

It will have 3D, and online multi-player capability.

Only problem is that we will have only 24 hours to enjoy it before.....

well, i think 2011 should have the whole metro north railroad, lirr, nec, njt, sle, path and nyc subway system. There should be announcements for when the train is arriving at the stations and the doors stay open for like 5 minutes at the last stop:udrool: :udrool:. There should even be real timetables. This is just my opinion.
