Lets predict Trainz 2011

Hi John and Everybody.
The sad part is the wealthy bankers, who caused this worldwide, are still sitting on their laurels and enjoying the spoils. As companies fail, they scoop up the assets and sell them off piece-meal at a profit all the while the rest of us suffer from no jobs. And to make matters worse, in this country they got bail outs because "they couldn't fail". Instead of reinvesting the bail-out money back into the economy by providing loans as instructed, they're giving themselves record-high bonuses. Nothing has changed, and there are too many people in the till to make the change.

Well John I certainly agree with you regarding the banks. They should certainly not be allowed to pay any senior manager or executive member of the organization any pay rise or bonuses until every pound, dollar or Euro they have been given by whatever governments taxpayers is repaid. I cannot believe that those that have caused so many to lose their jobs can now just pat their selves on the back and give their selves large bonuses and pay rises from the money they received from those same people.

I heard on National Public Radio (NPR), the game sales are up even in this economy because people are finding a better entertainment value for their money. Instead of spending the equivelent of a single game on each person in a family, the same amount of money is spent on a single game that has many times the replay and entertainment value

With regard to the computer gaming industry not being affected as much as other industries by the recession then I think you make a very good point. The cost of Trainz 2010 in the UK is about thirty pounds, that would represent roughly a third of the cost of a reasonable night out. (Or at least it would represent about a third of what I spent on the evenings during the conference.( I think that's what made it such a good conference, Hic, pardon, why don't we have another).

As you say Trainz can be a family game/hobby. After setting up my North Devon route I demonstrated it to my better half of over 40 years who has lately started to take an interest. The interest seemed to increase while I was away At the conference (I think she was a bit peeved that she could not go) and since my return she is now grabbing the PC whenever my back's turned and running "my take em home scenario". You can go off people you know even after 40 years.

Where I live we have the tourists coming in from various places to visit the sandy and rocky shoreline. In the past the roadways were so thick with cars, you couldn't move. It would take me up to 3 hours to get home, and I would dread Friday's and in particular long weekend holiday because of the traffic. Last Saturday, which was one of the earliest and hottest on record, there was little traffic going northbound on the interstate. This was quite a sight because usually by this time in the afternoon, the road is stuffed for 20-plus miles.

With regard to the above, unfortunately we are finding exactly the opposite to you with regard to tourists. I live in a small town in Somerset UK which is on the Bristol Channel/Severn Estery. Being adjacent to the M5 motorway weekend motorists used to pass us by heading for the better beaches of Devon and Cornwall. However, since the steep rise in fuel prices and the recession far more of them are now terminating their journeys in Somerset and clogging up our roads, pubs, bars and beaches.

I live in a small cul-de-sack which joins onto another quiet road which unfortunately runs to the main ring road from the motorway to the seafront. The weekend before last which was a bank holiday it was virtually impossible to get out onto the ring road due to the tourist traffic. Clevedon where I live used to be known as "Somersets hidden Jewel" well it's certainly not anymore. Like John I gave up trying to go out and retired to my garden and Trainz hobby which was not so bad because I got quite a lot done on my route.

As stated 2010 seems to be in pretty good shape with few problems which makes it a pleasure to work on. So I for one will certainly be supporting Auran into the future because at the moment there doesn't seem to be much to rival it despite all the Knockers say.

With the important difference that Auran actually deliver.
and did you notice how dead the whole video was, except for the main consist and the single other one near the begining, nothing moved, no traffic, no people, not even any smoke or wind effects. Plus unless they are using very short drivers, there was no one in the cab driving, at least no one visible in the exterior views.

Now why should Auran imitate a two year old failure?

Apart from Doppler I don't think there was anything in there that trainz can't do already. Sure, it said the final version would have super elevation etc etc, but they weren't present in the technology demonstrator that the video was from...

It's possible that the driving experience might have felt a little better, after all, Aces knew what they were doing with simulators when it came to making the in-cabin experience right. But we'll never know, since the video can't really showcase feel :)

You already have the product. I made the scenario in Trainz to demonstrate the ease and versatility of working with Trainz. That is what my friend was commenting on.

I disagree. We have the technology, yes - but having a product ready for education would need a lot more than that. We'd need to provide a lot of samples, documentation, and tutorials tuned to the specific market that we were trying to address- and since we don't even know exactly what market that might be, that's a pretty big ask.

The track will still look like a bowl of spaghetti and float.
Still won't have decent turnouts with movable points.
Still have to hold the shift key while laying track to keep it from snapping.
Ultra Treez will be included.
Error checking will be upped, yet again.
The same 30 will complain.
The same 30 will defend it to the death as the second coming, no matter what.
More older content will become unsupported with no replacement. Yet still included in the box.
09 will be pulled from the shelves, DLS access will remain, SP's won't.
Nothing under the hood will be tackled, all cosmetic.

Without a new game engine it will be situation normal. Only thing left to play with is content. I do see more payware content packs on the horizon. All the freeware folks are going that way, I see the company doing the same. New game, new content requirements, no real freeware support equals vacuum that needs to be filled and more dollar signs.

Dave......

Thus why no more releases from me and they were @ less quality on the DLS as freeware ( I reworked some of them and look much much better ) . My license does state they can not be sold for profit by anyone but me, and afraid that infact TS2011 will have our expensive and hard work included ( way to many hours to even estimate now ), yet we are not compensated. This is another reason why UltraGrass (suprised I was never approached by Auran on how this was made and offer to include in TS2011 ) was never freeware on the DLS and very sorry I stopped selling it, but threats to pirate it made me stop. I pretty much left this game behind now due to continued harrassment, but had to comment. I also let allot of people down, including the Trainz Community but I digress and move on. TS2011 was another reason for my decision as well, and including Auran ignoring me after providing sound advice / issues on SpeedTree.

I have little to no interest in TS2011, as I fear it will not have value to me regarding content, and be just a repacking of TS2009/TS2010. I do know that TS2011 will obsolete many content creator's work and it will not be functional, so buyer beware including payware.

did I miss an announcement somewhere? What compensation other than public adulation was ever promised? And even the adulation was sometimes rather faint but I'm not complaining. I create and share because I like to.

Where did you get your crystal ball or do you have a direct line to the inner sanctum at Auran?

This may be a first, Auran are taking flack for product that doesn't even exist yet.

While we're on the subject let me be the first to trash Trainz 2012, it's just not Olympic enough. ;)

From the tone of your posting you have obviously lost all faith and interest in Auran and the Trainz simulator. Therefore can I with the greatest respect for everything you have done in the past suggest that you do as you stated you have done and move on.

If you look through the forums postings over the last few weeks you will see a large number of Members enquiring as to how they learn to make content (some are already putting their first creations on the CMP). Therefore others will come forward to replace those like yourself in content making whether that be freeware or payware.

Again with the greatest of respect, I note that you state that you have left Auran and trainz behind, but obviously you still read the forums so you at least must retain some interest in your previous hobby.

Again thanks for everything you have done in the past, and the best for the future

Windwalkr

You missed my point completely. I was trying to demonstrate that Trainz repackaged would appeal to a much broader market than the niche market of Railroads. The educational bit was a bomus.

:hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe: What a cartoon video, I hope Auran isn't going down this road.

This is what a real Dash 9 should sound like in a rail simulator.....Turn your volume up.

Open Rails will take years to achieve anything similar to this.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I'm just saying that I don't think that it's as simple as putting a different name on the box- we'd have to rethink a lot of aspects of the product and marketing. I'd certainly love to see something happen though!

You can polish a Barney ... but in the end it is just a bright and shiney Barney !

Why is it that so many people adamantly defend Auran Tranz Simulator, like it is their homely child and personal creation, which it is not.

It's akin to saying look at my lovely, sweet (terribly ugly, hellacious) wife, she's such a gem (in the rough) ...for she's the best thing I got at the present tiime. While it may be true that Trainz is the best thing we have at this present time ... Trainz is no gem, by any means ... and it is as antiquated and underdeveloped as Grand Theft Auto is to todays high tech PC, XBox and Playstation games.

Some day when a really realistic rail simulator does come out ... it will put Trainz to shame, and your grandkids will say: Pop Pop, did you really play that antiquated Trainz game, it resembles "Pong" from the 1980's.

I challenged everyone to post realistic Trainz 04/06/09/10 videos on this forum ... but as of yet what I have seen is truely cartoonish and toy trainish.

Post your videos ... really good high quallity videos (without any lame annoying music sound tracks, that only hide and cover up the inferior sound effects of Trainz.

Post your videos, if you can prove that Trainz is so high tech and so uterly outstandingly realistic ! I challenge, you all to post videos !

Follow Up

Here is a follow up to what I had said before for Trainz 2011.

Besides new routes, Trainz 2011 will have...

  1. movable people
  2. more realistic traffic on both the roads and the rails
  3. birds, and animals that move
  4. planes and boats also moving along
  5. better routes
  6. more interactive industries
  7. more stations
  8. longer sessions and scenarios
  9. more rolling stock
  10. more locomotives
  11. rebuilt routes with 3D equipment
  12. stock from RRMods as built-in
  13. more steam hauled routes as well as electric
  14. improved Paintshed, new and better Content Manager and Content Creator Plus
  15. Realistic driving conditions and people entering and exiting not only passenger cars but buildings too, just like in real life

These ideas could make the next Trainz like reality.

This tread has gone off the topic.

For routes I also predict a cut down version of S&C and Murchinson.

Strange that no comments were made regarding a 64 bit Edition.
Microsoft killed off 8 and 16 bit very quickly, yet 32 bit has survived for at least 5 years. Take Their Visual basic version 4 and quick upgrade to version 5 which did not support 16 bit programs.

I think cascaderailroad answered his own challenge in that statement when he said " while it may be true that Trainz is the best thing we have at the present time". in my opinion it certainly is. Yes without a doubt better things will come along in the future that will make the present version of Trainz look poor and old-fashioned.

To advance the argument a bit further we only need to look back at the cars we had in the 1960s and 70s. They were noisy, very prone to breaking down and very expensive to purchase and run. Compared with today's cars they were not patch on the comfort, economy and reliability we have today.

However, they were the best vehicles there where in the time period that we had then and we cherished them, looked after them and loved the manufacturers that made them because they were making the first cars that ordinary working people could just about afford to own and run.

Auran and the Trainz simulator is in the same position as the car manufacturers and models of that era. No one could foretell that power steering would become commonplace, or that 50 or 60 miles per gallon would be achieved by the average sized engine or that the comfort and reliability would become what it is today.

As stated, without doubt better train simulators will come along with more realism, better graphics and probably you will be able to run them or build your route or content by just talking to the computer and telling it what you wish to happen.

However, it is not here yet and in my opinion Trainz is the best simulator out there for the time period We are in now. That is why many of us love it for the hobby that it creates for us and pleasure that he gives us. As for the future, when a better simulator comes along with all that is asked for by the poster I will doubtless be one of the first to buy it.

However, it very much looks like that Auran may well be the company that produces it, and so in the meantime I will go on supporting them in those efforts. Their step-by-step approach to what Cascaderail is asking for I must admit I like and is probably the only way to achieving the posters desires

Shame about the non event that the rest of Railfail is.

I bought everything up to and including the 9F.

Models are ok but the whole fiasco is top heavy with payware.

It doesn't simulate anything, apart from boredom.

I see they were wetting themselves over on ukts, because someone did a loco with opening windows.......................well hello......Trainz has had animated, windows, doors and god knows what else for a long time.

IKB.
