Lets predict Trainz 2011

lol ... no way will Auran put that much R&D into developing a game ... they sit back and let all the freeware creators do all the work for them.

For fun, I predict Paulz Trainz will donate some of his brilliant stuff for 2011. There will be the Sishen to Saldanha Route, imagine 14 Class 9E's pulling 600+ wagons over the Kalahari, the Apple Express and Bananna Express for visual splender and Barberton to Palaborwa along the Kruger with the Big 5 roaming along the track with working speed trees (and speed rocks)

Why don't we just stick to 2010 for a few years & get it working as it should without any problems.

Let the content creators catch up with the current version & get the DLS back to where it was with TRS04 & workable content.

Unless there's any major changes to the program itself some decent service pack enhancements & some optional additions routes/content etc now and again should keep everyone happy.

I would just like to play with it & for it to work without worrying if the content is full of errors or not or when I next have to upgrade my PC just to keep up with next greatest release.

If they want us all on the same platform it needs to stop somewhere & settle down until it's accepted by the majority of users as the base model again.

What about splitting Trainz and creating an edition for die-hard railroad enthusiasts that would include improved prototypical signals, crossings, rail sounds (like track, bridge, tunnel, and doppler), as well as better train physics and realism.

*snip*

Wasn't this what was proposed, some years ago, by Auran, but due to unforseen circumstances, never eventuated? I think it was called Rail Simulator Pro (RSP for short) and had everything I personally could have wished for - but alas, things can be dreamt, but dreams are not so easily put into practice, as I imagine it'd take a complete rewrite of the code, and who knows what else, but definitely a bit +1 from me.

Are you serious

Thinking even further ahead Trainz Simulator 2012 Apocalypse Addition with a little count-down timer untill The End "evil laughter!

:D

I really don't believe this thread is real, but lets assume it is,what the hell makes you think there will be more of these unfinished attempts at getting it right, just once. It hasn't happened yet,and I cant see it happening ever, because the final release is pushed out before it's tidied up to get dollars from mugs like me who in the past have believed Aurans hype, that "This is the Ultimate Trainz Experience".Now where have I heard that before???

IF they do go again, and I will be surprised if they do, it will be the same poorly finished product that needs countless patches and fixes to get it where it should have been in the first place, but then in hindsight that's what Auran do best,so maybe they will try it again, but rest assured, they wont be getting anymore of my money.I must state that I have enjoyed the ride, and its miles in front of Microsoft's effort, but enough is enough, and Im now going to utilize what I have paid for over the years. So there you have it.Am I leaving? Hell no, there's a few people who I need to pay back for their rudeness in the past:p

2012 what we might see in the next version...

Possible additions...

More Speedtrees
Introduction of Speedgrass
New improved splines including power lines, fencing and walls
Full extension of the East Coast mainline (London to Scotland)
Interactive stations and some new industry's along the East Coast mainline
Added scenarios to the East Coast Mainline
New Chinese and Japanese routes with added content from each country
Some new look American routes with scenarios
Romanian routes with Romanian content

Possible new additions:
New look HST 125 set/sets - possibly made by JN114 and reskinned by Nexusdj
Some old content will be made compatable with the new look Trainz 2012
New look track switches/points - possibly made by Ocemy and AJS
New look level crossings - possibly made by Bloodnock and AJS
More new improved track - Possibly made by Rumour3 and Romanian Trainz Studio
Baseboards change to climate, green grass changes to white snow and vice-versa

This is just a small, but possible insight to the new look Trainz 2012,

For the moment, I'm so happy with Trainz 2010, only additions above will make me give up my beloved Trainz 2010.
-----------------------------------
With regards to "OPEN RAILS"

This Rail-Sim looks very much like the old MSTS (Microsoft Train Simulator) the graphics and the track, even the catenary poles look very similar to the old MSTS, maybe "Open Rails" is the new name for MSTS. If it is the same, then "Open Rails" will be virtually the same as Railworks.

I see that a few people predict no 2011.
Auran will look for a way of generating income so for this reason I predicted a 2011 version. It may of course be 2009/2010 repackaged with only service packs incorporated.

Well the Comet pack is coming out soon(tm), and perhaps others along the way. So this I think is what 2011 will bring.

But Auran does have other games. They may just let TS slide for a year so they can put dev time into other products.
IMO, I'm happy enough with TS2010 that I am going to keep it for the foreseeable future, as CC's develop more good content for it, and I may even be able to do some CC myself someday.

Bloody hell, what waw that dig for, Apocalypse = End of world, 2012 possibly end of world, explaining a joke = less funny. People humour has left the building.

No wonder people have been rude in the past

I agree. The grumpies seem to have taken over the forums again. :P

The track will still look like a bowl of spaghetti and float.
Still won't have decent turnouts with movable points.
Still have to hold the shift key while laying track to keep it from snapping.
Ultra Treez will be included.
Error checking will be upped, yet again.
The same 30 will complain.
The same 30 will defend it to the death as the second coming, no matter what.
More older content will become unsupported with no replacement. Yet still included in the box.
09 will be pulled from the shelves, DLS access will remain, SP's won't.
Nothing under the hood will be tackled, all cosmetic.

Without a new game engine it will be situation normal. Only thing left to play with is content. I do see more payware content packs on the horizon. All the freeware folks are going that way, I see the company doing the same. New game, new content requirements, no real freeware support equals vacuum that needs to be filled and more dollar signs.

I agree whole heartedly, Dave. The underlying engine needs to be improved before anything else can be done other than cosmetic changes.

We have to remember that nearly 99% of the content we use comes from third-party suppliers. Getting these people to update to the "new" standards has become a case of trying to pull chicken teeth for not just Auran, but also the rest of the community. If the new engine comes along and the old creations are still the only ones available, what good is that? This is not saying that people aren't out there creating for the new versions. It's a matter of quantity and of course quality items, which the overall Trainz community seems to want at the same time.

Perhaps if Auran had a gazillion dollars, they could rebuild the product from scratch and not worry about the income stream drying up at the same time. New products are very expensive to develop as we all should know by now. Supporting old ones can become a financial burden as well as both as the new product is being developed, the old one still needs support. This is why we see support dribble down on products over time, and new ones come out sporadically.

Not much of an Auran fan anymore, but.

They have usability licked.
Best AI out there at the moment.

Time to crawl under the hood for some real changes. Better physics, better track work. I know there is a large base with ranging ages and what not. Pretty doesn't always equal better.

I just wish they would stop treating this as a game. For some it is, but for some it is a simulator. No reason both can't co-exist in the same box. Not like you can get to the last level and have to buy the next release for more missions because you beat it. Still haven't found any cheat codes.

I'll trade a tree for more prototypical handling all day long. Combine that with it's ease of use and a real winner would be born. The content game just reinforces the toy train aspect they need to shed to attract more serious users. I like setting up virtual model railroads, it is a blast. I would also like the option to run a proto route with proto train handling. I never noticed one sim's lack of visuals while operating a train. I also never appreciated another's graphics while wishing it handled better.

I know the usual cast of characters will line up for the flame fest. Don't really care. Trainz has evolved to a point where it could satisfy anyone if they took a different tact over new content. A little more attention to operations would make a killer sim, attractive to anyone who loves trains. Sadly, they want to stay with the toy aspect while ignoring the benefit of the best AI, which they already have.

Dave......

I have always thought of Trainz as a simulator, not a game. I've spend the better part of the last 2 years working on a prototype layout, and I'm still nowhere near done, yet I can run trains and enjoy my work without all the scenery that isn't in place yet. I treat this exactly as I did my model trains, except that this is much better. I don't have the frustrations of the trains derailing in the hardest to reach areas, or the annoyance of having to rip up and destroy perfectly good scenery because I just didn't like where it was.

Yes, we can enjoy better physics. I am a huge fan of prototypical railroading. I would absolutely forgo better looking trees for better physics, more realistic track, sound, and perhaps throw in some surprises, like seized bearings on the wheels (hotboxes), signals and crossings that occasionally fail to clear, etc.

I enjoy the fact that there are many people out there who create excellent content, and make it available to the rest of us for free. I don't know of any other "game" that has such a support base.

Perhaps it is time for Auran to turn this sim loose; Open the source and let us have a whack at it ourselves. I am confident that within the first year, we would have all of the current bugs, annoyances, etc fixed.

Here's hoping what they don't do...

Call it TrainzWorks
Move distribution and updates on to Steam.
Have techs whose standard response is that it's the product which is misunderstood and the users who need to change.

Seriously, I think my wishes come down to the same things I've also looked for in each new version:

Better looking track in particular points that by default draw with frogs and checkrails.

Control of curvature during the spline placement process.

Default tunnels free from the current limitations.

Functional independent, dynamic and autonomous despatcher, finally put an end to having to work points manually as you go or trying to "find" your route through a complex yard or station throat.

Ability to set up passenger (or freight for that matter) timetables and for the sim to monitor performance against these.

In addition I'd like to see the following considered...

Career mode.

Financial/Company mode - maybe similar to FS Passengers but an excellent incentive to build a route/layout with structured industrial flows and revenue related to how you perform in shifting the cargo and of course keeping costs of your operation down.

- i predict that there won't be a 2011, and there shouldn't be. IMO they should fix what they have now and then start fresh, from the ground up for a 2012 release. c44's, gevos, etc should come built-in as well as modern day routes. auran needs to take some hints from msts2/rw's!
