lego207's Work/Silver Lines

Freezing and bleeding is the theme now. A little video for now, however:

If that didn't explain anything, I have a little side project. Mainly a practice route to help better my landscaping & texturing - both need work, I think. Above was just some landscaping. Nothing is finalised on there.
Also there is some caternies on that route (they are short for now but I will be getting taller ones.. kinda need taller.)
Will probably explain fully later, but, a short run-down: I've been toying with the idea of the SLRR using some electric locomotives in a more mountain-y area. Thinking about potentially reskinning a Little Joe and set of Boxcabs into an SLRR scheme. Might be kind of fun - electrics are pretty cool, especially the Milwaukee Road's stuff, so... maybe. We'll see.
That seem like an interesting or cool idea to anyone? Would love some feedback or suggestions on that, especially.

That wraps up my stuff. for today. No screens, but hell, I made a video. For late-night video-ing, came out pretty well. I suppose I am most productive during the night, after all.

Cheers,
SM

I am just so excited for the street running pics! The electric idea sounds cool, maybe just make a little branch, like to mine coal/serve a quarry/serve a logging area.

I think a coal-line for the electrics is in order.

Started to building the area up a bit more. Textures, trees, etc...
Trying something totally different from my normal style. Variety of textures, many different types of tree, and the grazzy isn't right up against the tracks now. Also, different tracks than normal. Thoughts?

WIP, of course..

Catenaries have been removed for now - they're too short! I'll have to find some taller ones on the DLS. I suppose Tume's would be exactly what I'm looking for... hmm... time to hunt.

This is a small project I am very excited to be building - a nice change!

Cheers,
SM

I wish the TSM tracks were standard gauge! They are 5ft gauge and it just bugs me, I can't bring myself to use them! And yet I have SD9's and a Docksider running together! :hehe:

When you are doing landscaping, make sure your sensitivity is all the way down, suttle enhancements in terrain make a big difference and look more realistic.

I didn't even notice their 5ft gauge. I totally forgot, too. Either way.. they look fantastic.

Stuff! More textures! More Trees!

All of the 3 current baseboards are mostly done - minor touchups here and there, and also, catenaries need to be placed in again..

As a bonus...

Another video.

Why not? Pretty quick & easy to make...

I am really loving this little project. Makes me want to redesign a good chunk of the other two Silver Lines routes.

Cheers,
SM

You should put little flag stops in and small towns so that interurban cars can be run on this route, maybe just to transport mine workers/coal company executives on inspection trips, etc. Also, what TSM track and ballast is that? I might give it a try.

That's an interesting idea.. I'll have a look into it. I haven't thought about interurbans at all, actually... hm

Thank you! The annoying thing about TSM track on the DLS is that all the track has the same thumbnail, which is a picture of all the tracks. Flag stops usually were a gravel platform and shack (RDG Exton station on DLS is great for this). There aren't many interurbans, but the RDG EPA and EPB work well, by Pweiser, I think. Landrvr made some, but they are hard to get as they have to be distributed by email.

Many many updates... I suppose that's a good thing for a new project, right? Either way, great things are ahead.

First big thing is I have gotten a start on one of these...

I have gotten an EF4 into SLRR scheme. Due note those Milwaukee Road plates have been replaced with 'SLRR' in black lettering for the time being; these shots were taken just before I fixed that.
I will want to weather it a bit and fix a few little areas that orange is peaking through, but otherwise it's looking pretty good.

However there's a slight problem. A fairly large problem.

The other side of the locomotive is uh.. backwards. Not what I really want here... anyone here know how I could possibly fix this? It is the biggest problem I've got here..

However, the other side looks much better.

Also, just downloaded the MILW catenaries - none of them have any poles..? Just floating wire? Weird..

Search for: "Old endpole", see who the author is, and then make a search for everything they have made. There are some trackside catenary poles.

What computer do you have? It seems to run Trainz very well.

Fairly well, yeah. Some larger routes like my Silver Lines Midwest really hurt my frames sometimes, but basically everything in there is a high quality thing.. man I gotta deal with that place.

The specs:

Nothing too fancy, but it holds up pretty well. Only problem I suffer is the bottom category... software... ugh. I need to deal with that, too.
Another!

The last ~4 mins of that is non-surveyor and was my favourite part to edit and watch. Something about the train at 13:15... just went so well together

Last speedbuild I'll post on here for a while, but I will still upload them to my channel if anyone enjoys them. I like these - quick and easy to make, and it helps show all the progress done to a route. They're fun to do.

Shame tomorrow is monday, I would've loved to build a lot more on this route if I had the extra time. I am really loving this route. And it feels great to be away from the SL & SLM routes. They're nice and all... but I need to build something else. This electric route will only make the future of the SL routes better, I think. I don't know if it's obvious or not, but did you know that this electric route is the first one I've done with real mixed up textures to paste around? The SL routes are basically just 1 or 2 textures rotated around a whole bunch. That will change later.

Cheers,
SM

Okay, now I am not one to applaud my own work or call it amazing or anything - but this first screenshot...

Well... have a look.

This mountain range has turned out very very well, I think.. I really like it.

Two more shots

Setting the time to evening was a great idea.

I think it's past time to really get some catenaries in here. Preferably something kind of dark support-wise. I'll have to see... I don't suppose anyone would know a good 1 or two track catenary, dark, and can fit an EF4 underneath?

Cheers,
SM

Nice EF-4s!

I made a few SD60Ms. I'm likely gonna redo, as I made the stripes way too small...

Mogwai for the win!
Mog-what?

-snip-

Nice looking stuff there, judah! I think with some enlarged/expanded lines, those locos will look fantastic.
I think I'll have to use the same techniques used in this new route to rebuild the route in that shot. Might be a good idea, that is a small route anyways. Hm..

Currently I am up to weathering an EF4 up and touching up the mountain a bit more.
No pics for now, but soon™

At last, catenaries... turns out I was downloading the wrong thing. It was just wire spline, no poles. Whoops.

Also, did a bit of weathering on the EF4's and took off the large "Silver Lines" - it was clear that specific designs, unless rotatable to look the same, won't work here. Maybe a proper symbol will go in the middle in the future. Not sure.

Lastly, a picture of UP 844 coming through the route (taken just before I got the catenaries). As soon as I read about BobCass, I felt the need to run a bit of steam on the route. Truly a sad thing. Rest in piece, Bob...

I am now curious as to how many trees are here. It's clearly a lot of trees.

16455940927_0d79b51cd0_o.png

All of these trees and more.. but basically no frame drops.

Anyways, current map size.

43f753701569c086da277aaef7d0e974.png

Consists 0, 2, and 4 are all PRR M1bs set along invis track or on a (relatively) unused portion of mainline. Why? Zoomed screenshots. There is no free-int-cam or like a quad-copter thing over here. Trust me, I've tried.

In other plans...

Even though those locomotives would be close to 100 years old... still happening.
