leaving for good

Alien 3:
All of us in the Trainz community are deeply saddened by this news. You can however retire knowing that you will always be considered one of the very best creators. Many of us have everything you have ever created and will miss your contributions on the DLS. Leave us knowing you are highly revered.
Gary

Alien3,

As with all the above, and those who has yet to type a message, but sent hopes and best wishes in thoughts, prayers and other means, my heart goes out to you!
This news has to be among the worse news anyone can get, I had a similar experience a few years back through my husband (Tore), as he lost most of his eye sight on the right eye - and later it happen on the left too - due to late unnoticed damage from diabetics and an unwillingness to admit to him self that he actually needed to take care of it.

I hope somehow a way comes that will help you at least keep some of the eyesight, loosing it completely I would imagine would easy set one out quite a long period - we still try to recoup from what happen when Tore had his life changed badly back in 2003-04 and later in 2006, and with him they managed to save at least some of his sight, thankfully.

My best wishes to you, your family, and try to stay as positive as possible. And, never give up, talk with others, you done a good thing by also letting us here at this forum know what happen to you - never ever shut the world out when bad things happen, it will only eat you alive.

Take care of your self, and use the technology for all it is worth. :)

Best wishes and the best of luck to you!

Linda

Hi Alien3,

I am desperately sorry to hear you are leaving us,particularly for the reason given. Having been a keen collector of your creations, I will miss, not only you, but those as well.

As others have said, don't give up hope and look for alternative remedies.

All the best, hope you will be able to come on the forum from time to time, and let us know how you are getting on.

Regards Bruce

Very, very sad to hear this. I hope and pray that the doctor is wrong, they come up with a cure. If the worst does happen and I pray it dosn't, I can point you in the direction of speach programs etc for your computer so you can still use it for certian stuff just pm me. I used to attend a blind college so have some knowlage of these things (I'm registered blind although have sight equivilant to very bad short sight except glasses don't help and no depth perception, congenital Nystagmus)

I'm hoping and praying that they are wrong and your sight improves and thanx for all your beautifull, well made and above all different contributions. If you do go you'll be very sadly missed.

All the very best of British,

Andy

Very sad to hear. Although, I agree with many others. Keep your chin up. There is always hope. Many times doctors are wrong. I'll use my son as an example. he was born premature (3 months). The hospital called us on the third day and told us he wouldn't make it through the night. Here we are 13 years later and he is as healthy as ever. With the exception of his eyes. He had one removed at the age of 3 and the other one is very poor. Recent trips to eye specialists have been very promising. The back of his eye is perfectly fine while the cornea is all screwed up. Once he turns 18, they will do a cornea transplant and the doctor is very optimistic that he will gain vision.

In the meantime, he gets through his computer pretty well. He has a strong grasp with Trainz (UTC) and Sketchup. For reading, he has Jaws for Windows. Very expensive program though. Close to a thousand dollars. Another one he has and works rather well is Dragon Naturally Speaking. I've actually used it at one time and was rather impressed.

No matter what happens, I wish you the best.

Wow, man. I am really sorry for your loss of eyesight. It is a real shame. I have absolutely no idea what you must be going through right now. Thank you very much for all of your great content over the years, and also, thank you for telling us why you were leaving, rather than letting us wonder.

Also Windows XP has Microsoft Narrator in the accessories menu (at least mine does). It tells you what is happening on screen with the "default" tech voice. What you are typing, if a window popped up, or a menu opened, or anything. It seems decent to me. The only thing I just noticed while checking it out was that it doesn't like to read the forum... Mozilla Firefox also has an accessibility add-on that could possibly help with Narrators forum issues.

Hope this helps.

Very sad news, I've always enjoyed your creations, but don't give up hope. I am deaf so miss out on the sounds of Trainz but I'm ever hopeful that modern advances in medicine will one day let me hear again.
Think Star Trek, think positive.
Good luck
Cheers

Hello alien3

This is very sad news to me and do not lose hope, their is always new treatments coming out every year for people with poor vision, I too suffer from degeneration in the centre tip of my left eye, I've had it for four years now, I'm too young for this as I'm only 30 years old, I can understand how you feel.:(

It's been a pleasure working with you over the years and if you ever need a hand or someone to speak too, we are always here for you and the whole Trainz Community will miss you alot, remember never lose hope.:)

Thanks to Craig (seeseeme) for pointing me to this thread.

Take care my friend.

Regards

Ahsan
