Learned hard way

I just learned this the hardway and lost a month or so of layout work. :'(

When in Content Manager (TS2009) and in ASSET DETAILS, with a layout or other selected, Be VERY careful with the "ASSET NAME:" window!
I had the cursor at the end of my current projects newest version's name in that widow and pressed the Delete key. (No, I don't know why) POOF! a month of work VANISHED! The entire layout disapeared.
Unfortunately it was not in "Autosave".

This is a good example of why I always backup carefully when small children are about, I wouldn't want to run over one!

Did you have a good rummage around the Trainz files to look for duplicates and trash? Good luck .

Nope. Couldn't find it anywhere in Trainz or on the PC but...

I found it on my backup external WD Passport drive. I had done a backup 8 days before the acident and had done little to my Stockton to Milpitas route during that time due to the holidays.

Still, restoring it was quite tricky. It was saved with the backup utility that comes with Win7. I had backed up the entire TS2009 folder and didn't want to restore it to the earlier date since I had done some work on another "layout" plus a search of the Passport did not reasure me that the route was even there.
A session for the route's current version had survived in Trainz so I looked for it's missing dependecy and discovered the KUID for the route. I then searched for and found it, with some difficulty, on the Passport. I then copied it to the desktop and then to TS2009, did a Quick Database Repair and all is well.
