The latest newsletter showcases another new feature being explored by the Trainz Developers, Crossfade LODs.

Of all the new possibilities for a "future edition" of Trainz this one interests me the most. Currently LOD enabled scenery assets "pop" into view, like heating popcorn, whenever the LOD changes and this is most noticeable and can be annoying, although I fully appreciate the reasons. The new "Crossfade" feature for LODs will go a long way to eliminating this.

So far as I can tell it doesn't apply to the 400,000 assets we already have.

No it won't, like the Procedural Track feature for rail track assets prior to TANE, it has to be added by the creator. The same "no retrospectivity" issue applied to the "new" industry active feature that came with Trainz 2004 as well. New features have to start somewhere and it will take time before they become the "norm".
