Large Custom Layout Crashes After Most Recent Update - Causes?

In fairness, I'm not sure when the latest patches for TRS 22 were released; I've been away from the game for >5 months due to life, but after patching to Build 132284, my custom-built route will not load. Now, in that time my FCT has also expired (not that I think that's related, but it could be???). All the other routes load up fine, it's just my custom-built one that that excepts out after about 10 seconds or so of loading. It does the asset check and begins to load but after a few seconds excepts out. Sometimes it's the whole TRS application, sometimes the loading window stays up and I can load other routes. It doesn't matter whether I try to load a session of my route, or edit the route... Is there a crash file (I haven't found one) log that the game generates that might help? Windows 10 Alienware Laptop. Thanks

Your expired FCT has nothing to do with the crashing update. We wish it could be that simple.

After a patch, a "silent" DBR occurs. You can see this if you click on developer and show logs. It's unfortunate that the progress bar no longer shows after the repair. This has caught many of us off guard and has led to problems similar to the one you are facing now. Attempting to run Trainz while the DBR is running can lead to crashes.

Since Trainz has crashed severely on you, you now need to run at the minimum a database repair manually. At the Launcher, click on the developer menu item and choose Rebuild Database. Depending upon how much content you have, this can take more than a few minutes.

Once the DBR has completed, you need to check the Content Store for updates. There were a lot of updates to various built-in and DLC packages after the patches. After the DLC has been updated, check for content updates in Content Manager. Creating a custom filter to do this helps a lot.

The one I use is:

Installed = True
Out of date = True
Packaged = False.

This will show any installed content that has updates. You may want to purchase a new FCT for this since you haven't used TRS22 in a while and there have been a lot updates since you last used the program.

With your content updated, check for faulty assets. I created a custom filter for this to show only faulty assets and nothing else. The reason is the built-in faulty filter shows missing assets and faulty dependencies which is redundant information.

Faulty = True
Packaged = False.

The reason for hiding the packaged assets is these are assets that cannot be updated by the content creators due to the war in Ukraine and can be ignored.

Select one of the assets the press CTRL+A to select them all.
Right-click on the highlighted assets and choose View Errors and warnings.

This will verify your content, and should remove any faulty assets from the list. If there are any faulty assets left, refresh the screen by changing to Installed then back to your faulty assets filter. If there are still faulty assets displayed, then view errors and warnings again. These are faulty and either need to be downloaded, reinstalled from cdp files, or deleted.

When you open your route again, this is going to take some time. This is due to the assets being precached. You'll see a message on the top of the screen.

When you go into Surveyor, your menus and content will be missing and it's possible that your route may appear blank. Give the program time to cache your content. You may see a message at the top of the screen in very pale grey text. Once this is complete, you should be fine going forward.

Unfortunately, didn't help. There were no faulty assets. Back to the drawing board... Thanks!
Don't give up just yet...

Download the new version from your My Trainz account and install it.

This version should automatically find your current data. If it doesn't, you can point to it if you want.

Let it run a DBR. Then try again. That may fix your problem.

If not, let the program create a new folder and import your data into it. You can do this manually by copying the Local, Modified, and Original folders. You'll have to install anything from the content store. There are some required assets up there, keep that in mind as well.

When this is completed, you'll have to run a DBR, again, to import the content into the database.

Thanks, will give that a try in a bit. It's not the end of the world; I actually enjoy creating the routes more than "playing trains", but I would like to figure out what's gone wrong.
