Lady Wind, Canyons of the Wind

Lady --

I think the reference might be to the fact that we both do "micro" routes which put quite a bit of railroad and operations into a smallish space.

See for example, my 2-board:

and my 1-board:

The major difference, though, is that I restrict myself to maybe an additional 5 or 6 assets from the Download Station (all the rest is built-in).

I gotta confess that the requirement to download between 5 and 6 thousand dependencies from the DLS for your little route has prevented me from downloading it - despite the very attractive screen shotz.

Holy Crap, I never actually knew the actual quantity of assets that my route had contained

I do prefer to work with the smaller 'micro' routes, as you mentioned, because I think you can focus more detail into it.

I think my big issue with the route was that I had used Compatibility Mode, and I guess i am learning now that a lot of people dont do that?

Probably

" ... i am learning now that a lot of people dont do that?"

Well, they used to use Compatibility Mode and it's a good, quick way of getting older routes to show and work in TS2010.

But:
  1. Some/most/all (delete as appropriate) TS2010 users now seem to expect that all content and routes will work in Native Mode.
  2. The writing does seem to be on the wall if TS2010 Multiplayer is any indication - Compatibility Mode is transitional and will probably be dropped in new releases of Trainz.
For any new routes I'd strongly recommend not using Compatibility Mode.

I guess I could turn off my Compatibility Mode, and then just delete all the assets that end up not working. :( 'Kinda dissapointed though...

Using CM3.3, the picklist, and 2010's replace assets functionality you can do a lot better than just deleting assets.

Step 1, Use CM to generate a list of all faulty dependancies of your route - this is easy, just click 'dependancies...' show in main list, then add a search modifier to limit it to faulty items or faulty dependancies of those items.

Step 2. Save this list as a saved search.

Step 3, for each item in the list, find (a) non-faulty replacement(s), using the picklist as a place to hold items

Step 3.5 use the picklist's 'view in main list' function to transfer the list of replacement items into a saved search (ie, view in main list, then save the search results - CM will have filled out a kuid based search for all the items)

Step 4, put all of the bad items list into the pick-list

Step 5, go into 2010 in native-only mode

Step 6, select your replacements 'saved search' in the filter options, this way only your replacements will show up in the asset lists on the right side.

Step 7, for each red item in the pick list, replace it with the replacement, if you have several replacements for an item, replace with each one until you find one that matches the best.

(Step 7 may be easier if you have a area of the route where you can compare from the picklist side-by-side to the replacement item(s), you can create an extra undecorated baseboard off an edge of the route for this)

I'd recommend doing it all in stages if you have a LOT of faulty dependancies, eg, tracks/splines first, then buildings, then foliage and so on... You can speed this up by using saved list with some careful choices of sorting method, and dragging chunks into and out of the picklist

It sounds like a lot of work, but it isn't really (heck, listing out the steps to making a coffee would look like a lot of work on a forum post :)

I'm upset because a couple of ground textures and bridges just suddenly dissapeared off of the route, with no explanation...

Hi, very nice route. To answer your question, there is a nagging bug in TS10 that sometimes causes the route's cdp that you upload to the DLS not to link to all the dependent assets on the DLS as it should. So when someone downloads your route not all the assets are downloaded automatically. They just have to download them manually. You didn't do anything wrong.

Of those people that did download my route so far, did anyone get to actually use it yet? (Seeing as how I apparently created it in Compatibility Mode).

I certainly did, but my loco found the river:D
A real fun route and a massive effort on your part.

Hi Nikki,
Bit of a novice at this but CM3.3 reports 58 broken and 5 missing, doesn't seem a mountain to climb.
Ran quite well in native mode till someone demolished a bridge :)

I have downloaded all and fixed all items, But whenever I try to load it trains justs stop. It does not freeze or crash just stops loading the route. The loading progress bar only moves about 10%. I have tried both native an compatibly mode. I may just try to redownload it all again.

I wouldnt mind if anyone who has downloaded the route decided to completely amend or repair what was needed to make it more compatible with the latest/native modes. Moreover, if someone who took the time to repair the route would even re-upload it to the DLS for me.

Sorry to the previous poster's whom had hit the roadblocks that they did so far.

I can now drive the circuit.
The bridges by Storknest I cleared the 'broken' by making category-era = 0 from "All", first time I have tried to cure a broken asset so I hope I kept within the rules.
If so I will tackle the rest tomorrow.
The five missing dependencies were on the DLS.
Trampled many a motorist beneath the wheels of the 9F. :)

I want to work on a new Desert-themed route, which will be in native-mode only, this time.

I would still like to hear from anyone else who managed to successfully operate on this existing route, though... ;)
