lack of British content for 2012

as an aged fan of Trainz, having progressed from trs2006,09, 2010, have recently installed 2012 , but was surprised to find I cannot get any British steam locos to install in 2012, only diesels.
The game is fine for US, French, Hungarian and russian owners, but unless I'm missing something, as a fan of british content, I'm sticking to 2010 Engineers edition, that all works fine. Does anyone know where I'm going wrong.....as a pensioner I could be pretty hopeless with technical stuff !

British? What about German. I wish there is a way to convert older stuff easily. Using PEV can be a pain and after much fiddling some of the assets works and others don't.

I think the problem is being caused by auran themselves because there seems to be bad service with loads of complaints about various problems which should not be happening if the game was made and checked properly.

I bought both 9 and 10 versions and found a lot of old stuff which was made for older versions and not upgraded, and older content not working on some of the newer versions.

Theres quite a few versions of trainz 2004,2006,classic 1 & 2 & 3 ,2009,2010 now 2012 they dont need to make all these versions it's stupid and confusing and I think people have got fed up with this to be honest.

Skipper1945 has a number of steam locos that work fine in TS12, the LNER N2 is another that stands out. You can import everything in TS2010 by file, import content then point it at the TS2010 folder. I have a few carriages here http://www.trainzproroutes.org/tprdownloads/index.php search for creator johnwhelan that are OK in TS12.

Basically anything that works in TS2010 should be fine in TS12, there are few differences.

One of the reasons I have stuck with TRS2004, is the huge amount of British content available
from countless sources, it looks good & it works. :D

Tedward - what specifically (in terms of names and kuids) are you looking for that worked in TS10 that you cannot get to run in TS12? Many people here will be able to help you and there are considerable advantages to running TS12 over earlier versions IMHO, so it should be a worthwhile exercise for you.

people always whine about products. And most things they complain about is caused by them or their lack of computer power

this is up to the people who create the content. Auran/N3V create the software while the community builds the stuff we use

They have to release new stuff to make money right?

If someone would like to post the the kuids and names of a couple dozen of the non-working locos - and assuming they're on the DLS - I'll see if I can fix and upload them.

as a pensioner I could be pretty hopeless with technical stuff

Don't put yourself down, 'hopeless' and 'pensioner' do not necessarily belong together. Hopeless comes with all ages, just read some of the posts in the forum. Most of the trainz problems are fixed by common sense and asking sensible questions on the forum.

" ... have recently installed 2012 , but was surprised to find I cannot get any British steam locos to install in 2012,"

Not so.

As proof, see here:

and:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrcbuGI3JOM

and:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfrk3b1s2DI

All of the above work stright out of the box.

This one from the Download Station requires some tweaking:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIMabUI8Vgc

But a TS12 version can be downloaded here:

https://www.rapidshare.com/files/419140023/Euro_Loco_BR_9F_TS2010.zip

Tell us if this helps.

You can in fact import all the 2010 content into 2012.
I have done it and I have an astounding collection of stuff in 2012.
The .ja files need to be renamed then moved into the TSR12 "Built in" folder.
Also the 2010 content is available from the download station specifically for 2012 so they say.
My moved files are now called 1.ja to 8.ja, BaseTs10.ja & DataTs10.ja
You would have to make a folder somewhere, copy the 2010 .ja files then rename and move them.
You must use a copy of the originals to rename them otherwise you will stuff up TRS 2010.

Hi tedward
There must be a problem at your end somewhere along the line. Can you tell us the names of the stock you cannot install and an example of what you have tried to do to install them.
I'm no expert either but I have more UK steam loco's than you can shake a stick at, plus they are all top grade made by our own forum community guys n gals. :D

Just done a qick search on the UK steam engines that I am using in 2012. I admit that some are payware but iit is a very reasonable selection in my opinion.

Hi tedward, I think I've got just about all the UK steamers I had in TS10 working in TS12, so it can be done. Please let us know which locos you'd like to use in TS12 and we'll see if we can help you get up and running.

Paul

Hey Tedward,

I can relate to what you are saying, I'm a pensioner and a BR steam fanatic and after a very bad year last year with the ****** computer I have recently got around to putting 12 on my current machine and while I have got a lot of older BR steam onto my computer I feel like I'm banging my head against a brickwall because of all the errors and despite running the pevsoft programs they seem to be never ending but I'll keep battling on in true British spirit as I determined not let these problems beat me.

Good luck
