Kirkby In Ashfield East

2009 Novice
Thought I'd show you some pictures of my latest creation Kirkby in Ashfield.
Closed in 1963, Kirkby in Ashfield station was situated between Mansfield and Nottingham and was next door to the Summit Pit.

This is in fact, a more abridged version of the complete track plan and runs from Sutton Junction station, through Kirkby and onto Annesley including the closed Great Central Spur near-bye as well as the relief road heading toward Butterly. That said, I have obtained a copy of a 1930's map and after this will make it "sleeper for sleeper" making this, more of a runnable test bed to evaluate techniques and ideas

Any advice or input would be appreciated

Looking South with a much abridged Summit Pit on the right had side, through out the length of the pit and the MPD, the track had relief lines either side of the through lines.

Again, looking across the lines to the shed with Lowmoor Road running alongside with Milton and Gladstone Streets Visible.

Looking good there......I do like routes based on a prototype.

Just a pointer in case you didn't know - you can change track type on the animated points by clicking on them with the ? in the scenery tab. I think there is about a dozen track types to choose from. The default is MB Finescale, which I personally find is a bit of a framerate killer.

Hope to see some more shots as you progress.

Awesome, I love that engine shed, can you tell me where you go it??

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris

The shed is by Bendorsey, part of a collection of his under the description of "Engine Complex" on the D.L.S. The one I used is the three road shed with doors at one end only which is prototypical for Kirkby shed

Thought I'd put a few more shots up, Most of these are done in Surveyor as I find find it sometimes useful to have stock on the tracks to gauge scenic effects and scenery items, besides, once i start in driver, all work stops for the night

I agree, I wasn't aware how bad it was through the station throat until I tried to run it on the default setting, I changed everything over to MP wood which does seem to improve the running and also looks better to me as a representation of a tired and dirty permanent way (see below).

Thanks for the advice.

The screens are very well done. I'm not a fan of over seas railroading, but your work definitely looks genuine!

Nice to see this area being done
I've had more than a few pints in here ............................

..... the paved area on the right is the old Lowmoor Rd. down which I used to work in the early 80's. :D

:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: , The same here and numerous other Hostelries around Kirkby and Sutton, thats of the advantages of a prototypical route I suppose, they have to be researched, and as we all know, research can be a very thirsty job! :).

At the moment though, I am back tracking a little and converting it to TRS2009 as well as modifying the MPD to it's final layout with the extra two road shed along the East wall of the exisiting shed as well as using a better road system than I originally had.
