Kickstarter County 2 - Local Freight

Hi all,

I have decided to give the world of Trainz a revisit, after years away (have been along for the ride since the original Trainz back in the very beginning of the 2000s, although on and off). I have done the tutorials and some simple sessions, and have now gotten started with the Local Freight session at Kickstarter County 2. This kind of multiple assignment freight mover mission is exactly my thing, and so far I am loving it :D .

However, time has come to unload my first load, 2 cars of general goods at Poland Ind.. My train at this point consists of 6 wagons in total, 4 box vans loaded with general goods, and 2 flatbeds of lumber. I can't for the life of me seem to figure out how to unload this cargo. I tried simply pulling up to the unload point marked by an icon, expecting it to work automatically, like the loading does. It didn't. I haven't been able to find any unload command either. Ctrl + Right click, and then clicking "Unload" simply gives the train controls to the AI, who pull the train away before dropping the command and screeching to a halt.

Any help for an oldtimer newbie? :)

I've run this session several times....this drop off you are trying involves also reloading the box car...When you arrive at the loop outside Poland Ind halt at the junction for the Poland siding - uncouple your two box cars - drive forward past the junction, switch the junction and reverse into Poland Ind. Unloading is automatic then move forward and immediately stop again this will load your goods from Poland Ind...... You can then recouple to you train and continue. Enjoy

So if I understand correctly, I need to only bring the two box cars that are actually to be unloaded and reloaded into the sliding, and leave the two other box cars as well as the flatbeds at the loop?

The thought did enter my mind at some point, but I found it to be a silly requirement. Is it required to only bring the actual wagons that need unloading for any other unloading as well, or is it the reloading that messes up this particular trigger?

Thanks for your help!

This session needs to be planned carefully so that the required cars are in the right order. It took me several attempts before I got it right but thats the fun part of this sim. Don't forget to allow enough cars as you'll need 4 empty boxcars at the end of the run for the Frruit/Veg load

At Poland you can manually unload the cars containing 'General Goods' by stopping in the right place at the cargo ramp. You eventually have to apply very small movements (forward or backwards - I'd suggest forward due to the 'end of rails' - to get the boxcars reloaded automatically, this time with 'Palletised Goods' that you'll need later on.

A very nice implemented feature is the cargo door animation at the time of loading/unloading your 40' boxcars, although they get sometimes - depending on the industry you are - opened/closed on the wrong side.

If you try to do this all automated via [CTRL] + [RMK] then you'll miss some commands that you might expect to show up there. So you can either do a semi-automated approach into this or setup/ your own session, where the commands you might need can be inserted into the menu by yourself.

Re. the semi-automated approach: Just place a 'Drive to' command - which is alwavs available in the popup menu and select in the showing up dialogue box 'Poland' and 'Platform'. So your cargotrain will comply with this command from the position where you are at the moment and come to a stop at the passenger station. The rest you can accomplish manually as already described above.

BTW: 'Poland Industries' needs/consumes 'General Goods' and produces 'Palletised Goods'.

Yes, this is exactly why I enjoy this particular session, and hope to see more like it. As you see, I do have 4 box cars, and also 2 flatbeds to carry the lumber to Rosario, and pick up the paper on the way back (not entirely sure yet if that will go on a flatbed, but time will show, I guess...).

But when you say they need to be in order, is this because I do indeed need to only bring wagons that need unloading into the unloading triggers? That seems kind of unrealistic.

The car's order doesn't necessarily matter so far, only the one's which have loaded 'General Goods' get unloaded automatically (after the train stopped) when placed in an appropriate location at the cargo ramp. The same applies to loading boxcars, but they must be empty before they can be loaded automatically.

But on the other hand it _really_ might be useful to have all cars in a certain order, because you might run out of available space especially when the rail's end isn't far enough away from your last car.
