I Iz' ready and willing to help anyone, anytime, with those 25+ Altoona yards.
Replicating them all foot by foot, would be a daunting task, as there were at least 3 hump yards with gradients ... perhaps just model what exists today ... or an abreviated version.
I tried my luck on Altoona Yard aka Yard Ov Doom.
Worked from a mixture of those diagrams (according to the needs of the one who wanted to have it made) but gave up after 1/3 as I would have needed better diagrams.
Those seem to be too grainy for me.
Also, I wasnt sure about the angle(s) of the turnouts. I tried it with no.7,5, which seemed to be fitting.
Using templates, it still was hard to estimante the lenghts of the yard tracks.
I´d say with good maps & charts if it definitly possible to make it pretty proto.
In large, 5 mile long, 36 track yards I would use only a super low poly, chunky mesh track, like MP Track Wood v2
Meduim poly tracks like gret looking Greenery tracks, and high poly tracks on USLW, will absawootwee slay your framerates, and cause your PC to lock up in Trainz, in large, multi track yards.
My pc can handle it I'm worried about others :/ but who the heck in the the world of trainz would need all those yards anyways, yeah for the main line and the yards nearest it will be the high detail track and anywhere else well go with a low poly track, thanks isegrinns
I have often thought about all those yards ... fill them up with dozens of trains, and thousands of railcars, and many high poly locos ... and your framerates will be 0.2 FPS
The Alco fa's are made by anl, I reskinned the NYC version into a PRR one I mean if it's good enough and People want it enough I guess I could ask anl if he wouldn't mind hosting it or allowing me to release the reskin. And thank you, I have a feeling after Steve is done with the l1s soon, he will finish mg
heres the finished product with builders plate
That shot really gets me going ... I am willing to help in any way I can ... I can see the East Altoona roundhouse in the far distance, and the complete circle roundhouse at Altoona Works, at one time the machine shop had another turntable (or two), and another at the north of Slope Yard also ... I seem to remeber at least 3 other turntables, as well as the transfer table at Works.
I once placed a full circle round house, and a couple of PRR Erecting Shops, and my framerates went from horrible, to complete lock up ...requiring Ctrl+Alt+Delete to exit Trainz.
