jerkie screen on new nvidia in TS2009

Hi

My TS2009 is suffering from the dreaded jerks. Can anyone offer a suggestion

-----

Over the holidays I bought a new home PC for my family.
They mainly use it for internet and simple games and so I wasn't too fussed about researching and getting the best machine. My gaming laptop runs TS2009 beautifully.

Having said that the machine I bought still has reaonable specs

Hewlett Packard:
2.66 dual core pentium
2 GB ram
Vista
Nvidia 9300e (256mb ram)

When I run TS2009 I get rubberband jerks (in some places) while running a route.
Draw distance: 1.5km
Scenery detail: normal
Texture detail: high
Anisotropy: 1 lowest

I call them rubberband jerks because the screen will suddenly flash a number of frames ahead but erratically
The place on the route where its most noticeable has very little scenery to load but I am in camera mode tracking the train so the background is moving behind the locomotive.

Should I expect this behaviour from a brand new Nvidia 256mb video card .. or is the problem else where.
I have tried setting the vista system for performance running and I have tried closing down the background programs. They have helped a little but hasn't solved the probloem.

If I run in Open GL the problem seems to go away but the frame rate drops terribly.

any sugggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Do you have a stock trainzoptions.text file? I had similar stuttering until I modified my trainzoptions file with
-keepparticles=1
-keepallresources=1
Might be worth a try.

I'm running Windows XP with a 2.67 processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 8800GTX card and was having the same problems you are. The check that's done after installation tells me that I need to update my driver for the video card. Someday when i feel real confident, I'll try to update.
But, I think I've finally got it to the point where it jerks, seldom, if ever.
First, I reinstalled, but did not install SP1 this time. I'm running it in Open GL.
The biggest improvement came when I increased the Paging File Size. What was recommended was 4603 MB and it was set for 2060 MB or something like that.
When I bought the computer there was only 2 GB of ram with it and I added the other 2 GB later.
So I set it for 4603 and there was a big improvement.
I have my draw distance set about the same as you. Scenery and Texture are set at High.

If it helps, here's a comparison to my system.
A lower cost eMachines.
2GB memory
Vista 32-bit
Switched from a Pentium D 3.0 GHz to a Core2Dou E2200 2.2GHz
Nvidia GeForce 8500GT 512MB

Offhand, it might be how much video memory or it might be the processor type. Since you listed Pentium, I guess a Pentium D? Don't remember if a P4 was dual-core. A P4 or Pentium D meest Minimum specs but Core2Duo is listed as recommended. I got a slim performance increase, cooler processor temp and latest BIOS with it. On mine, I see slight stutter sometimes but nothing as bad as you describe. TS2009 requirements from the website.
MINIMUM SPEC
  • Pentium IV 2.2GHz (or equivalent)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 64MB 3D Graphics Card (NVIDIA GeForce2 or equivalent)
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • 1024x768 display resolution
RECOMMENDED SPEC
  • Intel Core 2 Duo (or equivalent)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 256MB 3D Graphics Card (NVIDIA GeForce7 Series or equivalent)
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • 1024x768 display resolution
And here's my trainzoptions, only the last 2 lines have been added, my options in Trainz are same as yours but I dropped Draw distance to minimum, options from the Launcher screen I set the Resource Cache to 1024.

Code:
-DepthBits=24
-StencilBits=8
-Jet=bin
-cabinfov=50
-driverfov=42
-DefaultAutoMip=none
-DynamicVertexBufferSize=4194304
-DynamicIndexBufferSize=196608
-VBO
-showkuids
-fastmenus

this may or may not help but ive been having the same problems and learned my power supply was dropping voltage in the vcore. since getting a more powerful thermaltake supply ive had no problems.
