Very Interesting read here...
as for the support, (which seemed to be the biggest issue I noticed here) Alan (the Helpdesk person) is there durring normal work hours (for AU) and answers help desk enquiries every weekday. If you submit something to the HD on the weekend expect to have to wait till the weekday to get a reply, most smaller buissnesses are like this. The Forum is here with active members 24/7 most of which are happy to help out. There is also the Trainz IRC chat which has someone in it almost 24/7 who generally can either help you or point you in the right direction. One of the other complaints (along the same line) I see is that when someone asks for help on the forums all they get is a link to another thread. This is common with ALL forums. most regular users do not want to type instructions on how to do something over and over again and so they will link you to the directions; you can expect the same thing in the chat.
As for developments, there has been many. TC now allows multi-lane and single-lane roads, adaptable working crossings, ditch lights, and many more. When trainz first came out, it was very basic, as time went on. 04 brought out the interactive industries, surveyor train placement, waybills, and more. 06 brought even more stuff to play with. I would say, yes TRS has been improving dramaticly.
Service Packs; Ok re-installing TRS is a pain; but one should expect EVERY computer program to come out with a service pack and each will have a catch somewhere.
final note; where did you get TRS for $16? and do they have TC there for a similar price?
