It's Not Worth The Headache

I have a phone number where my clients can reach me and ask questions. They call me all the time, my days off, when my daughter was born, when I'm at a wedding, etc... Thats called customer support.
That's not customer support, that's slavery. ;)

Over the past 5 and 1/2 years I have bought every version from Auran at a higher price, (CE, UTC, Paintshed, 04 and 06). I have also bought extra copies from retailers as gifts, and I can say without hesitation that the hours I have spent using the programs have been worth the cost.

Ah... I'm actually pretty happy with Trainz & Auran for that matter... EVERY company and product has it's issues, there's no way around that.

Dollar for dollar, considering all the software that I've purchased in the past and probably will purchase in the future, Trainz has given me more entertainment value then ANY other BY FAR.

What ever the issues, I'm going to stick it out and work through it.

Trainz is awful. I use the word in its meaning of "commanding reverential respect". (You guys over there, not Canada probably, would use "awesome" with no chance of being misunderstood but I that is too new a word for me). Just look at those little guys in the Trainz intro - they know.

Trainz is the only computer game or simulator I have ever tried, it works fine on my 5-year old computer that was never meant for games, and it is fantastic what it does for just £12.95.

Btw, I have had the glass drop out of big light bulbs leaving the cap behind in the light fitting and I did take it back to the shop.

I'm a retired Architect and there is a legal term that may apply here...Standard of Care. Most professionals are familiar with this concept and as long as Auran exercises a standard of care in their products, perfection is an unreasonable expectation. Trying to design a game that operates on an unstable operating system (any edition of windows) with a host of different hardware arrangements must be a daunting job and with the hours of enjoyment that I've received from the game, I'd gladly pay more than what I did for the game...After all, it is just a game.

You nailed that one leeferr - an unstable system to start with. That's why 2006 refuses to work on some systems, they're all different. Also, I've understood that programmers came and went in the development of TRS2006 thus made it a bit flaky. Still one has to spend more than 5 minutes on CMP. (I used up 3 weeks before I could DL anything at first.) Sometimes this sim drives me bananas but most of the time it gives me more pleasure that any other game/sim and I have high hopes on further refinement in the coming issues of TC.

Just as an example; I had 2 simulators (no names) that wiped clean the whole Windows-installation. Now that's cruel !!

I think what buzz really wants rather that a refund of $19.00 - a Trainz installation that works, and I'm sorry for him that he can't or won't spend the time needed 'cus people here go to great length here to help out. He sounded a bit more happy in his last post though - maybe helpdesk offered him a free copy of TC...

A Very Satisfied Customer!

I definitely got my $19 worth many times in the year that I've had TRAINZ. I got up to speed quickly, it's easy to use, and there's lots of great stuff on the DLS.

I've never used the Help Line much because I've always got my questions answered unbelievably fast by my fellow Trainzers right in the forum.

I've even used TRAINZ for some unintended things: (1) To lay out a campus for a school we're building in Liberia, and (2) To show how a development project could be done in a way that retains the character of our neighborhood.

Thanks, Auran, for a great simulator!

The other day I went to the movies... And exiting the theater I decided I did not like what I saw. So I went to the manager and asked for my money back... I suggest you try the same thing next time!

What's up with the seemingly endless digs about over moderation? These forums aren't overly moderated. You ought to log on some that are to see over moderation.

Cheers

ok yes i have to say that things have been quiet lately, and i thank you, but i do understand what he means. in the beginning it was a little over-moderated. but now it's ok. but for some reason peter8 doesnt seem to like me too much. it almost seems he looks for reasons to penalize me. ANYWAY, i have gotten my $20 worth that i paid at wal-mart when auran was trying to gouge us at 60. either way this isnt much more than someone over reacting over nothing becuase they feel offended of somthing or some reason like that.

Sorry, but I don't believe that $60 is gouging us. I paid about 40 for mine and I'd pay more considering the enjoyment that I've received from the game. Conservatively, I figure the game has cost me about $0.02 per hour since I purchased the game. Pretty cheap entertainment.

It's Not The Money!

Some say the "Trainz Experience" tends to mould people in different ways.

I've had people comment on how much they think I've changed since "Trainz" entered my life, I just shrug my shoulders and shuffle away.

To me, I feel the same.....

well, i'm not the type to go out and spend 60 dollars on a game, but whats done is done and it's been fun.;)

Long time.

I would like to thank all of you for all your comments and oppinions.

I am happy to say that Auran basically made every effort they could to help my situation and actually did remedy the issues I was having. I can now say I have the means to enjoy Trainz without the longterm commitment of having to fiddle with the bandaids.

I commend all of the community. It's good to see such a tight nit group.

$19.00? When was it $19.00, thats what I get for buying before its released!!!!!!

As for the fun factor, after spending many years in scale model railroading, this simulator has provided everything I could ask for, different layouts, all within the same room, different gauges, be it standard or narrow gauge, different era's ranging from the 19th century Americans right up to todays fast paced Intermodal operations, I can literally run what I feel like running, anytime I feel like running it, I can create my own layouts or download a host of layouts, or I can just use the default layouts and do whatever I wish with them, make changes to them or whatever meets my wants at that moment, try doing all that with HO scale or in my case, O scale, at a mere $19.00, I think I'll start putting my plastic and metal trains on ebay and use that money to buy a super gamers PC, and play with my TRAINZ....................:D:D:D

if it wasnt for Trainz I would of never got Addicted to Gmax
HEHEHE,, started trs up the other day , for reasons other than seeing how something looked in game and had to find my card to tell me how to drive a train in cab mode. Gmax How many of us are addicted to that? How much support do we get from the developers??? zilch. and we still cant put it down.
If you are having a bad time with TRS or the community, then walk away. $19.00 thats not much and who knows you might dust of the box one day and re-install it.
Dont blame the mods, they have an expectation for standards under the conduct codeplaced on them to uphold, they are doing their job. If you have read the code and cant come to terms with it or the expectations than there are plenty of other forums about TRS.

ps refunds arent allowed under free trade agreements:D (only kidding)

cheers
pete
