It's Not Worth The Headache

Don't wish to be seen as unkind but what does one expect for the money - Zip-De-Doo-Da-Day?! This is a great programme for what I paid here in the UK and I can do things with Trainz I could never in a month of Sundays do in MTS thank you.

This prog has brought me much happiness (and okaya bit of escapism!) and with a permanent health problem something to look forward to. In building my present project it has got me walking miles which is good for my health, seeing places haven't seen for years and some never been to before and so on. If this had cost me twice as much I would still have bought it. I don't expect the world for my pounds nor to go to the moon but I can drive trains, build layouts, drive trams - a lifelong ambition! Some expect too much it's a simulator for goodness sake not a life changing project.

Ever the optimist I can never understand thankfully the dismal-jimmy approach. Goodness this Trainz is competig with my love life!

Bobby

Now back to my Trainz trams.........

Very Interesting read here...

as for the support, (which seemed to be the biggest issue I noticed here) Alan (the Helpdesk person) is there durring normal work hours (for AU) and answers help desk enquiries every weekday. If you submit something to the HD on the weekend expect to have to wait till the weekday to get a reply, most smaller buissnesses are like this. The Forum is here with active members 24/7 most of which are happy to help out. There is also the Trainz IRC chat which has someone in it almost 24/7 who generally can either help you or point you in the right direction. One of the other complaints (along the same line) I see is that when someone asks for help on the forums all they get is a link to another thread. This is common with ALL forums. most regular users do not want to type instructions on how to do something over and over again and so they will link you to the directions; you can expect the same thing in the chat.

As for developments, there has been many. TC now allows multi-lane and single-lane roads, adaptable working crossings, ditch lights, and many more. When trainz first came out, it was very basic, as time went on. 04 brought out the interactive industries, surveyor train placement, waybills, and more. 06 brought even more stuff to play with. I would say, yes TRS has been improving dramaticly.

Service Packs; Ok re-installing TRS is a pain; but one should expect EVERY computer program to come out with a service pack and each will have a catch somewhere.

final note; where did you get TRS for $16? and do they have TC there for a similar price?

Hi, If you like tank games, Eating people games (Not much gore) and others type this in yahoo search bar. "GMC Forum Game" I know it sounds worng but click the first link.

And look around and take a break from trainz.

With the new foliage and grasses available plus the cityscape etc splines, Trainz has a new lease of life for me in terms of route building. Transdem and 3D Canvas support make production of accurate terrain and a stab at prototype buildings relatively easy.

Such is my renewed interest in Trainz I have little or no interest in the new EA Rail Sim where in any event add-on development seems to be more akin to MSTS in terms of terms of entry level difficulty - not user friendly spending two hours wrestling with a "blueprint" before you even get a basic route folder set up.

That's not to say Trainz wouldn't benefit from an overhaul - an updated graphics engine capable of displaying a further draw distance or distant mountains would be high on my agenda.

Two things from earlier in this thread:

1) About when Buzz said "Make all the default stuff like Phil_C's stuff." Phil_C isn't SELLING his content just for the heck of it! He put a LOT of work into it, which the *ahem* 8-man team at Auran for TRS doesn't have, plus Phil_C has been doing nothing but locos whereas the TRS team has been doing the ENTIRE GAME.

2) Someone else said "iPortals weren't made by Auran." That...is news to me!

I don't know how I got mixed up in this:) Some of my locomotives have almost two thousand lines of script, I have seen some of the code that makes up TRS2006 and if I remember correctly there were over a million lines of code.

It may be news to you but it is certainly true. Lars (the creator of LARS) created the iPortal.

Personally I rarely use anything else but TRS2006. I prefer the interface of TRS2006 over TRS2004 and TC and TRS2006 starts a lot faster than TRS2004. I have never had a problem with CMP except for when Auran's server was down. The biggest complaint I have with CMP is it's "in your face" message system.

Even if I was not selling my locomotives or even creating anything, UTC, TRS2004, TRS2006 and TC have all been money well spent.

Regards

Phil
