Is Tranz 2010 EE backwardly compatable with what?

Was just browsing all the interesting stuff in the Download Station and almost all of refers to TRS 2004 and nothing more recently that I noticed.

Was wondering if the new TRS 2010 EE is going to be able to even use four year old mods?

Any info on what program will digest mods written for what other program would be interesting. I've spent an hour looking and no where is it mentioned that I could find.

Thx

In principle everything is backwards compatible, so TS2010 should run anything.

In practice though it is not aways as it should be. TS2010 enforces the 'rules' much more strictly than earlier versions did, so any content with 'errors' that performed satisfactorily in earlier versions may not perform at all in 10.

Trial and error is the only way. Many early items can be fixed quickly and easily, where you draw the line is entirely up to you...

Andy :)

Fixing older content to work in 2010 is pretty easy once you get the basics down, Usually its just a case of removing a tag or converting a mesh.. Find a good tutorial. ;)

Uh-oh. I'm planning to get TS2010 in the near future when i get a new computer that can finally run Trainz properly (IE one i build just for trainz). Some of my favorite locomotives (Prowler's NG stuff) always gives me errors. So, just in advance, it's all a matter of knowing what the error is and fixing it, right? I've gotten pretty good at meddling with Config files, hopefully that's all i'd need to do?

I guess this is a bit of a question for myself to know what i'm getting in to. I know you said most of it is just where you draw the line Dermmy, but just in general, are most of the problems you get in the config? as i said i can usually fix that. Anything else and i'm stickin' with 09.

Well, my 2 cents, changing a flat tire is also kinda fun the first few times you do it as a teenager, but when you're a grumpy old man with arthritis and you've already done it a few hundred times over 40 years it's a rather irritating chore. My opinion they should have designed some type of automatic fixer BEFORE the pedantic error checking was incorporated. My first computer was a TRS-80 where you had to type in and debug the BASIC code yourself before you could actually play the game, I thought those days were behind us forever. :n:

Most stuff IS in the config.txt file, others can be fixed with PM2IM or Images2TGA from http://members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm

Bad part is copyrighted abandonware, I download a signal set to try out, got red errors and won't work at all. Gotta fix it first to even see what it looks like, then if I decide it's what I want, I got two choices;

1. Clone and upload my own fixed version of each signal in the set, or;

2. Upload the route with the originals as a dependency, requiring all the end users to fix all those signals themselves in order to use my route.

My opinion the whole thing is screwy, I got a few dozen skins in the file library ranging from TS2009 to the earliest version of Trainz, they're listed as "TRS2004" if they will work in TRS2004, but they don't say whether or not they'll work in TS2010 native mode or not - the only filter is the earliest version they will work in, no filter for which versions they won't work in. In my case regardless of what version it says, it WILL work in TS2010 native mode because they were all tested in TS2010 native mode. But with most of the stuff on the DLS there's no way to tell without downloading it first.

.

Iv noticed that the errors from Prowler's engines come from the engine spec. Put it on a diferent engine, and it will give you errors. Remove it from one of his? And its error free.

I did it. Thats all that was wrong with me.
