Is this normal?

Sorry if this is amateur or foolishness, but I just bought my first Trainz game ( version TS12 ) and started looking around learning the menus, etc. and my Download Content Update Button says I have over 980 contents that need updating. Is that normal?? Do I need to download them to play the game? If I select download all do I have to wait until all of them are downloaded to play or just download the ones I like in the preview window?

Thank you in advance for helping a "Rookie". :o :hehe:

Yes, very normal.
Do I need to download them to play the game?
No, unless you want to play a Multiplayer game and ones for that particular session are out of date. The session will tell you when you try to join, anyway.

The latter. Download ones you want or do it via Content Manager. You can still use the sim while they download, too.

Kieran.

Yes it normal = no you do not need to download them to play the game - but it is recommended - no you do not need to download them all - but it is recommended

You can download the updates in game while playing. No need to wait for it.

Note that if you download the updates in Content Manager and you do not have a FCT, they will count against your daily 100mb limit. In game will not count against a daily maximum.

As others have mentioned:
You will need to download all the updates related to multiplayer sessions if you want to participate in them.

oknotsen - "In Content Manager" and " In Game", isn't that the same thing or is there a difference?

You will need to register your game before you can do much more.

Stationbeem - I've registered my game in both the game itself and in "My Trainz" here, but its not showing up on the time line. Shane Turner said there were some issues with registering some games. Any suggestions? I do want to make sure its registered.

The data and assets and everything is the same...
... but...
... what you download in Content Manager counts against your 100mb/day maximum (assuming you do not have a FCT). Updates you download in-game do NOT count against that maximum.
