Is there a way to apply a script to a portal-produced train?

I would like to have a portal produced - say - an loaded coal train periodically and - once this train arrives - to have a previously generated script applied to it.

For example:

1. Portal 1 produces a loaded coal train.
2. This train proceeds via track mark XYZ to a coal-fired power plant where it is unloaded.
3. This emptied coal train then proceeds via trackmark MNO to portal 2 where it is accepted and disappears.

Are operations like the above available in TS2010 and - if so - can someone point me towards applicable instructions?

Thanks,

Wes

I don't know the answer to your question regarding scripts, but you can accomplish the result you describe by using driver commands when you set up the consist in the originating portal. I have a passenger train that originates in Portal A, makes stops at three stations and then disappears into Portal B.

but wait ... there's more!

If you place driver commands after your "Drive to Portal 2" command they are carried through the portal.

If Portal 2 is set to return consumed trains through Portal 1 then the train will obey those commands and can bring another load of coal, or follow some other instructions.

This process should not be taken too far or you will end up with too many trains on the route, but I have been able to use the "Copy commands from Schedule Library" driver command to make the same train repeatedly service an industry without the use of the Repeat option.

However, this does not work with iPortals or ePortals as the commands seem to get swallowed by those types of portals.

It ought to be possible to use the "Resource Check" rules ( I think there are more that one) to emit the train from Portal 1 when the Power Plant sends out a waybill for more coal.

If you detect a cautious note in my last suggestion it is because I have been caught out many times be asserting that something will work when it doesn't.

Cheers - Trevor

"If you place driver commands after your "Drive to Portal 2" command they are carried through the portal."

Yes. They will be executed when the train leaves the portal.

"If Portal 2 is set to return consumed trains through Portal 1 then the train will obey those commands and can bring another load of coal, or follow some other instructions."

Correct.

"This process should not be taken too far or you will end up with too many trains on the route, but I have been able to use the "Copy commands from Schedule Library" driver command to make the same train repeatedly service an industry without the use of the Repeat option.

Sorry, I haven't progressed beyond the re-rail portals. Nor have I used the "Copy Commands". I've used "Repeat" in those situations where I wanted the trains to "loop" between two portals.

"It ought to be possible to use the "Resource Check" rules ( I think there are more that one) to emit the train from Portal 1 when the Power Plant sends out a waybill for more coal."

Once again I have to plead ignorance. I use the portals simply to generate mainline traffic so that working the branches more is interesting. The trains are timetable based and not used to supply a specific industry.

"If you detect a cautious note in my last suggestion it is because I have been caught out many times be asserting that something will work when it doesn't."

I understand that one! And even when something works for you, it may not for someone else because of what seem to be insignificant differences.

Good luck keeping those power stations running. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
