Is it over?

Paul, you may not believe it, but I actually understand what you're trying to say and I really don't want to start up this debate again, but uploading routes somewhere else just isn't a solution as far as I'm concerned. I really don't want the constant inquiries about missing assets since the other sites won't automatically look for missing assets and download them. At least the DLS will do that if the assets are on the DLS.

aaa there will allways be missing assets,, even from the d/l station

It is 1 PM, August 31 here and 3 AM , September 1 near Brisbane. Has the presumed "End of Trainz World" happened?

Gosh, when I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was to look out my bedroom window to the west. I could still see the remains of a large mushroom cloud across the Tasman. Holy heavens, I hope "Trainz" only took out Southern Queensland and not the rest of Aussie !!!

Everyone has had months & months to come to terms will the proposed changes. Where not talking about the end of Trainz. Where talking about support for a few outdated versions and the stopping of the "gravy train"... (something more along the lines of "user pays", like the rest of the real world).

Some of you need to get a life & just get on with whatever the future of Trainz holds.
Simple, "newer" version or spend 7 cents a day on a FCT.

Change !!! Embrace it, for it is inevitable...
Cheers, Mac... ;)

'always' is a strong statement. There are some routes on the DLS with all content either built-in or on the DLS. There's even a thread about it somewhere around here.

Is your belief that all pre TC3 content will be removed from the DLS based upon any facts at all (for example statements made by Auran staff) or is it something you just made up?

Paul
I was of the impression (after reading Auran's announcement a while back) that anything pre-TRS2006 would be obsolete.
I am not assuming anything, nor am I making anything up. Does anyone really know what will be and what won't be available on DLS moving forward?

I would only hope that content created for TRS2004 that works fine in 06, 09, and 10 will remain on DLS for a long time yet. What would be the purpose of removing it?

Then again, will Auran itself be around come this time next year?

They would be if people supported them by buying newer versions of Trainz, rather than saying that they are sticking with 2004 and how dare Auran even think about stopping support. I have bought every version of Trainz since UTC, and the other day I bought the S&C expansion pack for 2009/2010. I have also had 3 or 4 annual FCT's

I am sure that if everybody on the forum had done the same then there would be no problems and Auran would probably have been able to hire people to build new content.

Anyway, if Auran were to go belly up, in the future then I wouldn't feel that I was to blame. I doubt if a lot of the whingers can say the same.

I've bought new versions since 2004, but skipped TC. I also bought a new FCT a couple of weeks ago. I have no problem paying a nominal fee to keep access to DLS. I have also purchased content from 3rd party payware.

I guess the concept that anyone should be able to buy one product and forever have free support and unlimited content is on par with the idea that all music should be free.

Sometimes I have different opinions, that might conflict with what I have posted prior, or after, but that's par for the course, considering the complexity of the game, and the various reasons one could become frustrated.

Overall, I have loved Trainz since TRS2004, and now getting into scripting, I am finding new ways to enjoy the game. I wish I could get into content development, but I am no artist. I do much better with code and wiring.

It's been clarified many times on these pages since - there is no mass planned cull of early version content. Unfixed, faulty content may be removed at some unspecified time in the future. The plan from Auran was to have a project to try to correct as many errors on the DLS as possible, thouigh there's been no firm announcement of how or when this will happen.

Exactly!!... I don't get what the continued obsession and hysteria with this so-called calamity is.

Unfixed, faulty content may be removed at some unspecified time in the future.

IF it happens... considering the faulty content actually built-in to TS2010, not sure how it could be justified.

Hmmm - the 'built-in faulty content' thing has also been explained. As far as I know it's simply a case of CM not understandiing that it can't re-commit built-in stuff as it's not shipped with source textures (just the in-game .texture files that are generally created by CM on commit). In the absence of source (.bmp/.tga) files, CM gives an error. This is the only 'error' I've seen reported in built-in content.

I find it ironic that nearly all the posts in this thread is by people with '09 and '10

It's funny people expect Auran, a small company, to continue support for older games, when EA Games, a HUGE company, drops support after about a year for their games.:o I also read somewhere that old content which works in newer games (i.e. TRS04 content which works in TS09, which there is a lot of!) won't be removed from the DLS.

Maybe people can't afford a new version? Well, you've got a choice, pay $24AUD every year for a FCT to download with TRS06, or buy TS09 from the shop for $34AUD, and pay no more. Or, build a new site so all TRS04/06/UTC users can upload content and get support for their games... Though running a site does cost money, not sure how much, but it's a cost...

I'd buy TS09...:o
Just my opinion,

Well,

9:17am on Wednesday, September 1st 2010.

Is it the end?

I'm able to post on the forums, and i am able to download from the DLS; granted, i have a FCT, but has anyone not in possession of an FCT tried to download anything?

Really guys,

It's not the end of the world. If it was, we wouldn't be whingeing and bemoaning Auran for making a decision that they thought was in the best interest of the game, and the community. *flinch*

Get over it,

Matt.

I still can d/l.

In the UK you can buy 2009 for £4.99 in a well known high street store.............
