Is it over?

There was talk of allowing the community to fix faulty assets and get them uploaded to the DLS. Hopefully it will happen - I expect that there are an awful lot of folks who would be prepared to help. I'd certainly fix everything needed to get my routes to run in native mode as a minimum. IF everyone did just that, we'd soon have the important stuff done, and the rest could be done as and when...

Paul

That sounds good BUT not all fixes are possiable easy to fix ,
Over the years as i have imported content from 1 Trainz to anther i have found a small amout ( not many ),
that need to be remade simpley fixing error's dont all ways make a item work the way it should.

It is not that there are "so called" faulty assets, they are faulty.

Mike.

I think that you're missing the point of the post. It's not that we're denying that they are faulty, it's the fact that when we created them and uploaded to the DLS, they did not show as faulty. Auran deserves part of the blame here for not having a stringent error checking to begin with. It just seems to me now that 09/10 are out there, that we content creators that still want to create in 04 and 06 are somehow dishonored. It's probably just a perception problem, but it seems that 04 content is being attacked as sub-par and I can remember when it received raves from members instead of disgust. Like I said, it's probably just a perception, but anyone in the public relations arena can tell you that perception is a very strong influence.

Whats to say if I created in 09/10, that when TS20XX comes out, what doesn't show as faulty now will show up as faulty then. I'm just not going to waste my time when the rules of the game are changing. It just takes too much time to create content to be told at some time in the future that your stuff was designed faulty. (Especially without a current CCG. I won't waste my time with the Wiki)

I would be willing to work for Auran, for free, and to have all the assets that were ever available, including Pre-SP3. And I would fix all of them for free, as most faulty assets are easily fixable.

Do I have the job Auran ?

I have already proposed so much. The response from Auran was vague but it may happen. do some searching in these forums for a similar project called TARM, as well as the Trains Community Newsletter.

I have over 1000 assets fixed and operating properly. I have also contacted the appropriate creators though only a few seem interested in updates. I hope more will join in for the sake of the community.

FYI, content creators, feel free to contact me in this thread or via PM or email if you want your assets fixed. As long as you're willing to upload them to the DLS or a major Trainz site that won't disappear anytime soon, I'll do the grunt work, I don't expect credit or $ :) I can't promise I can fix everything, but the Trainz community is just that, a community, so I'm gonna do my part.

I spoke with Ian Woodhouse (NZ) three to four months ago and he was saying that he has fixed thousand op-pond thousand of assets over the last four plus years.
The problem he faced wasn't so much fixing the assets, but getting the original creators permission to re-upload the corrected content to the DLS.
Hopefully he reads this thread and can maybe through some more light on the subject...
Cheers, Mac...

*That's the whole problem!!!*

Legalities. We can solve this problem today with a common sanitizer as long as it doesn't violate copyright.

Can we get back on topic?
The thread was about if you could/couldnt download stuff on dls for older trainz versions, you guys are getting a little off topic..

Just a thought, has any 06 user tried to upload & been rejected ? If so wouldn't just changing the build no in the con fig file get round this ?

Moin,

I´m just approved an asset in the waiting area that i has upload yesterday with TRS 2007 (german version of TRS 2006) with build number 2.6.
Seems that it works.

Can sumbody explain whats meant by Faulty Content,Is this referring to Content that was made for say 04/06 but shows up with Errors in 09/10 or doesn't show up at all and this is what a lot of threads here all over the Forum are about.
Just curious is all.
Cheers Mick.:D

Thanks Mike, was going to post a very similar response.
Two different worlds then and now and people are making the error of thinking they are the same.

Barry

These old Content, even the faulty ones, are like old books, I was tought never to get rid of old books (through them away) as there will always be someone who will find use in them. This is still true even in this day of mass virtual media.

These Content must be preserved, for in the future generations there will always be someone who will find some use in them.

This is why I am a big supporter of the GNU License and OpenSource, Content Creators should consider this as it will ensure that their work of love and dedication remain in the public domain.

I have not tried to use the DLS and CMP yet.

I don't agree with your vision of two worlds. I see only one world with people looking at in different matter.
Some are still connected with a world that is over now. Other follow the stream of time. I below to the second one.

Just a reminder, Trainz is a game. OK a few people have taken it more seriously and learned how to use a few programs to create some content for the game. I was quite pleased when I discovered that five of my creations had been included in TS2010, but I am not expecting some sort of immortality, as some people appear to be, just because I was stubborn enough to stick at it until I managed to get my stuff to actually work in Trainz. ;)

What a great idea. Immortality for creating content. Perhaps list the names of the people as maybe they have an elixir of life?

The Ancient Egyptians tooks their belongings with them to the other side but I doubt if it would work with digital content, but you never know.;)

I think I'll stick my stuff on a thumb drive and have it buried with me, just in case there is a big, big Trainz in the afterlife :D

:hehe: See how this thread is turning funny and instructive, guys, as I foresaw ( http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showpost.php?p=659981&postcount=10 ) :p

Now the topic is going higher and higher culturally by talking about one of the greatest ancient cultures of the Known World (the unknown comes after :hehe: ), The Egyptians.

Yes, let's people get buried, 'pyramided' or cremated along with a copy of Trainz. As I told on another thread, wise trainzy scientists know that trainzy energy is not lost, just transformed. :hehe:

Hei, Alberte, this is a fantastic idea for the marketing geniuses at Auran: Tranz Afterlife, to be buried with the "real" Trainz fans.
The first question arise: derived from 2004 or 2006?

Shall we continue with quantum physics discussions, parallel universes and the large hadron collider experiments - as related to Trainz of course....Barry :)

....but I am not expecting some sort of immortality....

Neither am I. This is the sort of thing that is so frustrating. We can't have a debate without someone having to berate others for having a differing opinion.
