Is it over?

Some of the great Trainz Content Creators passed away during the last couple of years. My Granddad always said a man (or woman) can only be judged by the legacy they left behind. They left something of themselfs behind for us, to inspire us and to be enjoyed, it is our responsibillity to ensure that this Content keep on living.

My 2 cents, some old stuff is worth preserving, some isn't.

One on the left is actually built in content for TS2010, my thinking is we could lose all the early stuff with sliding disks instead of rolling wheels and never miss it.

Neither am I. This is the sort of thing that is so frustrating. We can't have a debate without someone having to berate others for having a differing opinion.

Mike

Well I am so sorry if you feel berated, but I will just repeat what I said at the top of that post, TRAINZ IS A GAME. There was life before Trainz and believe it or not, there will be life after Trainz. :)

I think i'll have to agree with you Mike.
Cheers Mick.

I don't think that you're really sorry at all, but it doesn't matter. I wasn't looking for an apology. I well realize that TRAINZ is just a game. I don't need it shouted at me. Believe it or not, TRAINZ isn't my life. It never has been and never will be. I still don't think that you're understanding the spirit of some of the posts here.

Precisely, it is our responsibility, not Auran's, they are trying to run a business, and there is very little profit in sentimentality (unless you are Hallmark).

I have a lot of content from creators that are no longer with us, and have made copies of it on multiple devices so that I will always have access to it, but I don't expect Auran to keep it on their servers forever, though I am sure that the quality stuff will still be there for a long time.

Well I think that I do, but I also understand the problems for a small company keeping a game with a small user base profitable and pleasing everybody at the same time.

Still downloading for free

Its now Sun 5th Sept, and 'Trainz Downloader Pro' is downloading assets fine.
At a snails pace of course - Auran's dial up settings.:)

Hi clack

I'll take this rare opportunity to say thanks for your Colne-Skipton-Grassington route - it's long been one of my favourites.

I don't suppose you've got anything else of a similar quality in the making?

Cheers
Charles

YES
:D

Those Hideous Black Bogeys Must Go. I literally keep an eye out on Reskins on whether a freight car has those bogeys. If it does, There's no way I'm downloading it... EVER.

There are thousands and thousands of paintshed railcars and locos worth saving.

If Auran just obsoleted the sliding disc black trucks, they automaticly would swap out with the new high detail animated trucks

Good idea. But then we'd get people on here complaining that their ancient PCs, which they have no intention of replacing, couldn't handle the 'new high detail animated trucks' and that forcibly obsoleting the old bogie was just another example of Auran fascism! :hehe:

Paul

Anyone who couldn't run animated freight trucks ... their video card is inadequate factory junk, and their PC is 512 Mb Ram ... They wouldn't even be able to start Trainz TRS04/06, let alone run 09/10.

Auran wants to attract new users. Great.

My only complaint about this:
Content on third party sites means dependency hunts.
Content on third party sites means no error checking.

Two complaints about this sim that would get magnified by this move. Forums are full of some of these frustrations. Allowing content to be uploaded and checked here would benefit the new users and their experience with this sim and influence their buying the next release. With the need for efficient content path they have taken it may benefit them to continue DLS access for the error checking alone, especially if they want to attract repeat customers.

Why some haven't upgraded is their business. Locking them out at a time when they may not be able to upgrade will ensure they will not when they can. In the mean time they could ensure a steady flow of content which they keep taking for free to sell the next version.

Personally, I think it's a ruse to scare users into a buying frenzy.

Dave......

Well it certainly ain't gonna work with this here trainzer, I can asure them of that. ;)
I will NOT buy 2010 until they sort out all it's problems & make all the rolling stock that works in 2004, fit to run in 2010 'native' mode, compatibility mode is NOT an option I intend to use, or I might as well just stay with 2004 in 'native' mode.

"Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!":o

To you and yours as well, Ron. Try not to burn down the estate with that deep fryer this year, eh?

It seems from what I've read elsewhere that error fixing by the community of legacy content is likely to open up in a few weeks, so half of your wish is coming true... Auran seem to be more commited to getting TS2010 right than any version since TRS04, so that could happen too...
