Can't get my new 2012 to run smoothly. I've got a 3.2 Ghz Intel i5 processor with video - 2 TB Hard Drive -16 GB memory - 64 bit Windows 7. I've lowered the settings to most of what's recommended in options (graphics) to the 'older' or 'less powerful' systems. Still get a lot of jerking. Wanted to DL some engines, but not if this can't be settled. Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong? With all the hype, I thought this would a great thing for my grandkid. He still plays 04 & 06. THANX GUYS

Have you tried limiting your frame rates. It may be that your specs are too high and causing the frame rates to spike out of the roof, causing lag.
Must be you Joe. I have an Intel i5 processor with only 7GB of memory and 2012 is as smooth as glass. From your description, I get the impression you are using the Intel integrated video. That, is your problem. I was getting stutters and lags with the Intel video in TRS 2010 and 2012, so I installed an MSI GT430 and had to set FPS in trainzoptions at 50 FPS to smooth things out. The default setting was 200 FPS causing wild swings (as measured by FRAPS) in the frame rates. Frame rates now average between 20 and 50 FPS with no lag or stutter. In the options menu, I also set the graphics setting to DirectX. The default is OpenGL. Good Luck.

using an onboard graphis system that is likely sharing
memory with the mainboard.
The only solution is to aquire an add on video card.
This will smooth out that video to smooth as silk with
that system.
My 2.8 MHz system is smooth. Yours should be even better!
An INVIDIA or ATI card with 1 Gig of memory will do the job.

THANX to all my responders. Tried adjusting the frame rate etc, but I didn't want to hear it even tho I thought that was the problem..............looking into a new video card. I was hoping the amount of Ram was enough to make it run well, but I guess that's a separate category. Any ideas on what Nvidia I can go to at the minimum W/O changing my power supply? There's SOoo many out there. I don't want to overkill & have to rebuild my NEW system. THANX
What size power supply do you have? Generally, a GT430, which runs about 50 watts, is pretty safe, but some OEM and barebones kit computers have *really* low-powered supplies, e.g. 250W or 280W, which isn't enough even for a 430. FYI, ATIs give a bit more power per watt, and the 6450, at 27W, might be a little safer, but I'm not really an ATI guy so you might want to ask in the Parts and Labour forum what is the best 20W or 50W card you can get.
Joe; Get one of the GT430's. Mine (MSI version) loafs along on 30W under maximum load. Just make sure that you get the correct one for your computer case as they come in both full and half height versions. I have my fan speed set to automatic and I have yet to hear it's cooling fan speed up even after running TRS10 for 3 hours or more.
