Is 2012 really better then 2009?

Hi folks, planning on coming back, but wondering if its worth getting 2012 0r just staying with 2009? Your thoughts?

Yes. It is better. This is my opinion, but it's my strong opinion. It has better/newer features and is stripped of the older, crappy built-in routes

Well i'll say no. There are less routes and locomotives on TS12 then TS09. But sometime I might hack the jointedrail lcomotives that are built in.

TS12 is better as long as you don't go above 49922, as SP1 still has a lot of unresolved problems.

Regarding the missing content from TS2009/TS2010, all of it apart from the TS2009/TS2010 built-in routes and sessions are on the Download Station for TS12 users.

Now this is where I'll disagree, yet agree. Yes there are fewer routes, but its a good thing. Less routes that I will never play cluttering up my TRS12. And there are plenty of locomotives. Not to mention the DLS. But the DLS is for all trains. (TRS09 and up)

It has speedtrees which are more interesting, whilst there have been some issues with SP1 on the whole we've finished up with a lot of errors removed from content and the performance is slightly better so all in all I prefer it over the earlier versions.

As in, it has less for a reason. Those routes are oldddddddddddddddddddddddddd and really not a great way for a new user to start his brand new trainz experience

Yea, I support ditching old routes. In a software with as much dynamic content as Trainz, the built-in content is nearly a non-issue. In fact, once you get into the swing of things, you'll find yourself using relatively few of the built in assets/trains. Big stuff like built-in routes you don't like? There's no shortage of much betters ones out there.

I agree with that also, the old maps were never finished to begin with, and say for example, the map from the Trainz 2006 Demo, those 2 maps were put in Trainz 2006 first when the game came out for the demo and full release, and there last know version to have these maps is Trainz 2010 EE, and if in a update, you could chose which maps you wanted during that update, at least have a finished version of the old maps that were never finished.

Thanks guys! the one thing that makes me think 2012 might be better is fewer routes that I wont be using, a good point

Well, I took you folks advice, I have TS2012 coming in the mail today:cool: , installing it as soon as it gets here...hold my beer boys, and watch this....

LOL, I thought it fit, i'm kinda scared to install it since there are a lot of threads with tons of complaints on TS2012:(

TS12 has lots of obscure Russian, Chinese and Eastern European routes plus a couple of gems in terms of Tehachapi and the UK ECML.

That said it has plenty of downers, not least the loss of compatibility mode, many assets now "broken" in SP1 due to N3V's content creation policy being tightened up and the wretched auto draw distance. I have just reverted to TS2009 (and teetering on the brink of going back 100% to Railworks) as at least I can control the draw distance, not worry about heritage content looking odd and have instant access to 1000's of built in items without having to retrieve these from the (currently broken) DLS.

Why?

Do a new install for TS12. Patch up to the current patches if you want then import your content from TS2009. If there are any errors, most are easily repaired or have been taken care of already.

I upgraded over the years, importing and growing my Trainz install since TRS2004. There have been blips and bumps along the way, but that's expected with anything this enormous.

There are issues with SP1 definitely, but TS 12 up to 49922 is very stable and won't cause the new content errors. I can't compare it to 2009 or 2010 as I never used those, but I'd recommend getting it and patching just up to 49922. One thing you have to remember about complaints. People generally tend to voice complaints, sometimes very loudly, but usually satisfied users tend to just go along quietly and play the game. You can't really determine the number of satisfied vs unsatisfied users with any real accuracy. If you are using the forum, even moreso. The people who frequent forums are usually a very small percentage of the user base of any game. All you can o do is gather as much information as you can and make your own educated decision.

58414 Driver the best ever

Well Shaneturner your opinion is not really reflecting reality maybe personal experience unfinished job and yers dbase dls needs updated kuids was already way overtime.
Besides a bunch of already buggy commands from before 4992 which is a very solid and trustworthy built I or better my work proofs built 58414 is when they fix the old and few new bugs a very sound move to go.
My routes run superb, smooth, fast and handling is just great. More than justifiable upgrade for me at least.
Yes the replace asset bugs me from a route from before 4992 and much older and bug reproducable in this latest built but the new Laggan route also reuns flawless so guys be careful to see it all black and white.
65 shades of gray, no not on my head it is getting more black over the last 2 years. Must be trainz is giving me the time of my life hobby.
Those not see results compare 2009-TS12 got to my threads.

have a great day
