iPortals and CMTM

-bump-

So ive been playing around with iPortaling, and CMTMS. And I forget, and cant find, but do I need to make a record for every car that come into my route, or can i have just one record?

I know I only need 1 thru record if the cars are jsut passing though. But lets say I want 10 coal hopper's to come in, get loaded, and head back out. Would I need to make just one record that says to load the car? Or would I need to make 10? I cant remember...

Yes, You need one record for each car if it is to be delivered on the route. If I could figure out a way to assign one record to a block of cars without redesigning the whole system, I'd do it, but I've yet to get that inspiration.

Big bump.

Is there still any interest in this? Ive been poking CMTM around wit a stick and came up with an idea based off another idea I had.

And I was thinking, if we had a few people with small, 2-4 baseboard layouts and 4 or 5 inds each. We couldcome up with some thing easy and fun.

I just recently returned to trainz. I stumbled across CMTM while searching for a more prototypical feel for this system. Wow, the demo on the DLS blew me away. And the CC&LE week of operations has me enjoying this game more than I ever have. So yes, I for one am hugely interested in this and would like to know more.

Are there any more routes I can download that have this built in?

Thanks

One CMTM session is in the works for the Kickstarter Route in TANE.

These are sessions I have created I'm sure there are others.

On DLS:
Conundrum & Pacific Single Player,<kuid2:32711:100035:1> Big HO switching layout done in Trainz. Over 500 cars on route. No portals.

Long Island Western Operations,<kuid2:32711:100026:1> Urban switching in brick and mortar canyons. 1960 era. All off route traffic is handled by AI trains on the Long Island RR. 241 CMTM movement records.

Switching Grogan Loop,<kuid2:32711:100108:2> takes place on Philskene’s DownTown Traction Company 48 CMTM Movement records. This session won the 2010 world wide Session contest sponsored by Trainz.

Available from me on request:
Abilene Texas CMTM,<kuid:32711:100022> This route, by Maxwerks, represents the tracks of the Fort Worth & Denver Railway and the Texas & Pacific Railway in Abilene, Texas, USA in the 1950s. It was inspired by the article 'Fort Worth & Denver Days' in the Fall 2009 issue of Trains magazine.
The route consists mainly of urban and semi-urban switching, including street running. There is a passenger depot for each railroad, a small freight yard and depot, and an interchange between the two roads. There is also a coal-fired power plant, cottonseed and feed mills, and numerous other on-line industries. There are portals to the north, south, east, and west for use in simulating through traffic and bringing trains on- and off-stage.
CMTM Op Session was begun, but never finished. This is a good starter kit if you want to develop your own op session.

Iowa Central,<kuid:32711:100005> 120+ miles single track mainline with 18 towns, 220+ industries, 7 days of operations. 633 CMTM movement records – lots of operations.

Jay St Connecting 1914,<kuid:32711:100161> Barge fed terminal railroad in Brooklyn NY. 13 barges each day, some full, some not, bring cars to and away from this 1914 era railroad. Lots of urban switching inside buildings and down narrow streets. Watch out for the horse drawn wagons. 276 CMTM movement records

SOO Line Schiller Park Freight Yard Ops,<kuid:32711:100421> Schiller Park Yard is the southern terminus of the Soo Line Railroad, located in a northwestern suburb of Chicago. It consists of 6 arrival tracks, 15 classifications tracks, an engine terminal with roundhouse, two caboose tracks, four team tracks, two freight house tracks, nine R.I.P. tracks, a scale track, a clean-out track, two TOFC tracks and nine local industries.

Traffic consists of five regular inbound and outbound road trains with an occasional extra, and 13 transfer runs each day. There are seven days of operations with 720 inbound cars on Monday, and it gets busier as the week progresses.

The session is based on data from the Soo Line Historical Society Archives. In 1965, a study was made of the this yard to determine the feasibility of making it into a hump yard. This study included daily reports of arrival and departure times of trains and the number of cars in each train. The organization and operations of the yard are based on the 27 page Re-Issue of Yardmasters Instructions dated Feb 26, 1965.

The primary activities of the player for this session is driving the two switch engines, one at each end of the yard. This involves pulling cars from the arrival track in cuts of no more then 30 cars at a time, then sorting or classifying those cars by their destinations. The switches on each ladder track are labeled to identify the destinations of the cars to be placed on the corresponding track. At the appropriate times, outbound trains will be made up and sent on their way.

All trains departing and arriving from the north end are road freight trains. There are four thru freights and one way freight (or local freight) scheduled each day. Extra’s are run as needed. All road trains use a caboose. The road cabooses are stored on the road caboose track.

All trains departing and arriving from the south end of the yard are transfer runs to other railroads. There are transfer runs to nine different primary locations each day. Four of these primary locations have a second daily run. All incoming transfer traffic is by the 13 daily runs from this yard. No other railroads make deliveries to this yard. Each transfer run uses a specific caboose and may return lite with only the caboose in tow. All transfer cabooses are stored on the transfer caboose track.

Seven 24 hour days of operations. 2,123 CMTM Movement records. (Yes, that is two thousand, one hundred twenty three!)

Hoboken Shore – not sure the numbers, but it is somewhere on my computer.

Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded the Long Island Western Ops route and am missing <kuid2:106916:10050:127>. I think it is a fire hydrant, as there is one on the DLS with kuid2:106916:10050:1> Is this game breaking?

Will work on getting the other routes.

Thanks again.

I am a huge fan of CMTM as well! I have one route that has CMTM fully implemented, and several more that are at various stages of car traffic development. For me, it was the prime reason I have been drawn to the hobby. Simulating real world car routing/traffic is the fun I get out of it!

My hope in the future (some of which appears is already happening) is TANE support, and easier ways to develop your traffic plan (although I have gotten pretty good at cranking out lines of code based off of David's great examples!).

I'm all for anything that keeps this great add-on up to date and integrates it more smoothly with the various Trainz versions.

Thanks again goes to David for developing this excellent feature that truly gives purpose for those of us that want to simulate actual car traffic operations!

Any chance you can share your fully implimented CMTM route? I'd sure like to see what others are doing with it.

On the horizon, I have almost ready for testing, an EXCEL worksheet to create movement records. You enter the data for each industry and then click on a button and it creates a set of movement records. You would then cut and paste these into the CMTM file, and you should be ready to run a new session.

As far as TANE support, the only problem I've encountered is that majekear's stable or freight cars that I have always used need to be upgraded. Unfortunately, he is traveling and has no time for Trainz. He has given me permission to clone and fix, but what a daunting task! I hate to loose this fine stable of freight cars. Anyone interested in helping? First step is to figure out just what needs to be fixed and then standardize the fixing process. Then we could get lots of people involved and be done in short order.

David

Most of majekear's cars have the dreaded T:ANE error:

- Image file '40ftboxcar_art/40ftboxcar_art_icon.tga' is incorrectly used as both a texture.txt source file and a raw image file.

A thumbnail that uses the .tga file just has to be deleted.

Lot's of content has that problem, so much for 'backward" compatibility.

Tedious!! Fixed a lot of assets to get things running.
Harold

To fix this problem, I just make a copy of 40ftboxcar_art_icon.tga with a simple click and drag. I then edit the texture.txt file to reflect the copied file name. This is a simple fix. I think the biggest problem is all the bad commodities that are assigned in the multiple Queues.

We could empty all the queues that have defective products. or we could delete all but one queue and make sure it does not have any broken commodities. With CMTM, multiple queues are not used except for reefers. Any other ideas?

David

I'm almost done as well with a similar tool, just working on some of the finer logic.
If I have an Excel spreadsheet with a list of Car types (XBG, XRM etc), a separate list of industries, etc I have a script that creates the movement records as well. It works great but I'd like to make it a bit more intuitive. If I can get it to read the jetlog file and pull from there all the Industries (that I named using an IND naming scheme), I can be more accurate with the movement records. I'm working on a scheme to try and make it more "normal". I'm working on logic so that I can try and ensure there are enough cars available to move the commodities down the line. I want to make a series of moves that have logic behind them (take a boxcar full of goods from the freight terminal,to the shopping mall, deliver them and fill again with cardboard to take to the recycling center and return empty to the ECS track) BUT I want the script to build that based on input from a table.
Confusing I know...
Even better would be if I could get the CMTM to read data from a file that I can edit during game play in case I need or want to make edits in driver mode.
Push and pull data from the soup and a file somewhere.

Dave, you have my email address, send me that Excel worksheet, maybe I can glean something from it to help. (please)

Once finished (or at least ready for testing) we can reasonably quickly turn any route/session into a CMTM4 based one.

To fix all of the majekear freight cars be a lot of work without a tool like ccp or asset x. I see tane does not have that tool yet.

Thats some thing I would love to try out!

Also, RGCX has lsots of cars that are CMTM compatible. They are just reskins of majekear's, and dont have ARN. But thye are nice looking and there are TONES of them.

David,
I will PM you later this evening after work when I have access to my files. Will give you some background on that route.

BUMP

Ok, so just for fun I've been working on reviving my CMTMiPortal. But Ive ran into a bug and I know there is something I am doing wrong but I have no idea what.

These are the first iPortal records I have made:

cmtm90 "1234567,PortaliSouth,XFA,x,x,Detroit MI,empty,x,x,x,x,x,x"
cmtm91 "1234567,PortaliSouth,XFA,x,x,Detroit MI,empty,x,x,x,x,x,x"
cmtm92 "1234567,PortaliSouth,XFA,x,x,Wixom Ramp 1,empty,x,8,Toledo OH,load,Products-Car-01,1,x,x,x,x"

My cmtmiPortal in game is named portalisouth and the cars are the right type to be coming out. So there has to be something I am missing.

Are you getting a message on the Trainz Message Board that tells you the exitrain Id #?

It dose. But I do think I found my issue. Turns out capitalization is important. In my records it was PortaliSouth but in route it was portalisouth. Changed the name of the portal to match the capitalization and that resolved my issue, for now.
