iPad

I seriously doubt it, unless you had something like virtual PC on there. The biggest hinderance is the Apple issue. Auran doesn't produce Trainz for Apple, hence therefore, not compatible with the iPad. It would be cool to see it for the iPad(not to mention all apple products!), but alas; Auran had tried Mac Trainz, but they seemed to lose interest along with the fanbase that wanted it for Mac. I would love it for Mac, it would've stopped me from being on a PC all the time(I won't get into that).

Me either. Go figure. I only have two games installed MSTS and TRS2004 .

I have been looking at Ubuntu though for an older Mac. Anyone hear of running Trainz in that on a Mac or is it not worth the effort. Windows is getting old and eating up a lot of space just for MSTS and TRS04.

Dave....

Dave....

Go digging in the FAQ forums someone got TRS running on linux and has explained how to do it thru WINE.

Will iPad accept and can play trainz?
Ahh, the iPad.
The iPod Touch for people with bad eyesight who still want to be as pretentious as everyone else.

Steve Jobs is relying on the "sheep mentality" of the Mac crowd and the iPod crowd to sell his latest baby.
Don't let him down guys! :hehe:

Smiley.

I love it.

Mention Mac and someone with nothing to add has to chime in and throw around insults. Never fails.

The very people who accuse Mac users of being pretentious sheep being pretentious sheep. Thanks for the smile.

Well, not sure if it will in the future or not but I am writing an ipad app to allow you to control games, it's mostly for sims with lots of key command/combinations. I was thinking of adding a screen for trainz to make it easy for my four year old.

Basically some nice looking sliders on the screen for throttle, brake etc as well as buttons for common controls, especially the horn for my son :)

I may put it on the apple site if others were interested. If you get an ipad that is.

You're welcome.

Bear in mind that I use Macs almost on a daily basis, even though they're not my preferred machine.

I come across a lot of people who own them because they wanted to buy something different to a PC (for the sake of being different), and shiny white or shiny colour does it for them.
The iPod success also owes a lot to this mentality

I applaud Steve Jobs for using this marketing tool so successfully.
I don't applaud those who fall for it.

I've known quite a few art students over the years (because Art is also a passion of mine), and even some of them have agreed that out of a class of art students using Macs, you'd only find a handful of students that loved the Mac for the right reasons, and the rest loved it because they were art students and they had to have a Mac, like it was an arty badge.

The best test is to get yourself into a conversation with people about computers, and resist telling them that you have a Mac, just telling them that you have a computer.
We've used this test on people for years and it's very revealing. :D
It would probably work just as well on people with an iPhone or iPod too.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm not a Mac hater.
Nor am I someone who knows nothing about Macs.
I'm simply someone for whom the jury is out for anyone with a Mac, until I know why they have one.

It's an informed observation, not a knee-jerk reaction.
I just find it funny that people need to be fanboys.
I use Macs and PCs, I own a PS3 and Xbox360, I play both Forza and Gran Turismo, etc, and I don't feel the need to belong to a group of people for the sake of it!

I've come across fanboys for Macs and PCs, Xbox360 and PS3, Forza and Gran Turismo, and I think they're all hysterical to listen to.
People can own any of the above without being an idiot about it.
Are you saying that no-one who owns a Mac bought it because it was "purty", and went with their decor?

If you recall, my signature a few months ago took the P out of people who place their system specs in their signature space, and a few PC owners took umbrage to that because they thought I was mocking them, which I was.
See, both sides of the fence.

I could avoid pointing these things out in threads like these for fear of Mac owners jumping to conclusions on my observations (or PC users for that matter), but I wouldn't do that face-to-face, so I'm not going to do it on forums either.

I'm glad I brought a smile to your face though. :p

Smiley.

That you did.

I find the fan boy mentalities humorous. I do find it annoying when some do pipe in with the bashing for no other reason to just bash. I was once accused of being a 20 year old yuppy who drinks $20 lattes from Starbucks, in those words, because I use a Mac. All because I asked a question about running Trainz on one. Still cracks me up to this day. They were only about 24 years off and I don't even know where a Starbucks is around here.

I use what I like. I leave the matching ensemble stuff to the little woman. She comes home with a silver pair of shoes though she'll be the ex little woman.:)

Dave...

I have been called a few things for using a mac as well :) The irony is that after many, many years of preferring linux over windows to do my application development on I moved to OSX because I wanted a larger selection of commercial apps I could use while still having nice unix roots for my development.

So I am using mac because under the hood it's a geeks friend, lots unix goodness hehe.

we are all sheep of something. i did not buy a mac because its pretty, or that i'm a fanboy, or even cause i think its better, its not that apple won me over, it cause windows lost me. even with windows on this imac, i STILL have the same issues...crash's....and all around BS of various sorts. and whats more amazing is the main "herd" still follows microsoft, while some decide to break away and form a smaller "herd", those in the HUGE microsoft herd continue to point out a "herd" menatilty. its a pointless debate. use whats right for you. i've used pc since 1985, tired of following that herd, now i follow a different herd.

I must misunderstand, I thought sheep followed the herd and the herd use PCs.
PCs are boring, bland boxes that can be slow and sluggish or powerful and lightning fast.
Owning a PC doesn't tell others anything about you, because it could be one of a million combinations of pieces, without the go-faster stripes.
PCs are seen as a means to an end; a tool, so generally, the people who buy them couldn't give a toss how it looks, or if it allows them to fit in; they just want it to be able to do it's job.

A Mac however, is something that makes a statement.
Look at me, I have a Mac!
It could be the most powerful machine in the world, so why does it have to be candy coloured?
It's too easy for others to see it just as a Mac because of the way it's marketed.

100 people in a room, all owning a PC.
It's unlikely that many of their systems will be alike, and it won't make them feel like a group, because PCs are household objects these days.

100 people in a room, all owning a Mac.
Feel the warm, fuzzy glow from them?
They bask in the knowledge that they are all being individuals, but in the same way as each other.!?!

If sheep hear that owning a Mac will make you look cool, then sheep will buy a Mac.
Owning a PC has no credibility or coolness.
It's simply a tool, as is the Mac when you strip away the PR.

Are you a sheep because you buy a toaster, because you need to....toast bread?...No, of course not.

Are you a sheep because you buy an 8 slot toaster, with aluminium covering, on board computers to control browning, a well known brand name on the side, built-in radio, etc, just to keep up with the jones's?...Of course you are.

I'm afraid your "sheep buy PCs" doesn't add up under scrutiny.
Ask most people what make or type of PC they have, and they'll look at you blankly and shrug their shoulders.
Ask most people what type of Mac they have and I expect you'll get at least the model and processor, and that's because it wasn't bought for the same reason as you'd buy a PC.

I actually like most of the Mac OS.

As I've said, I've nothing against the Mac.
I just dislike people who fall for the most basic of marketing practices.
If I'm honest, I think the "shiny plastic" marketing is detrimental to the Mac.
It deserves to be seen as more than a fashion statement.

Who'd have thought that Amigacooke would have posted in this thread. lol
Like a moth to a flame.

Anyway, back on topic, sort of:
I was watching a news report a few days ago concerning the iPad, and it said that a lot of people were holding off buying one, seeing whether the price comes down, what alternatives appear, etc.

The truth is, there were already similar products available before the iPad launched, and there will be many others on the way.

So when I was watching the news report, and they show some footage of a shop opening their doors and an 18 or 19 year old spotty herbert clutching the first one sold in that shop as he leaves with a big grin on his face looking at the camera, I think to myself "I wonder if he's weighed up all the pros and cons with other similar devices, and decided that the iPad meets all the specs and requirements of the software he wants to run, and the tasks he needs to use it for......or whether he just wants to say 'I have an iPad!'"

Answers on a postcard. :D

I could argue this point all day if you like.
And that applies to any kind of fanboyism, which I consider to be the lowest form of intelligence.

Smiley.

Geez Smiley, you don't half generalise do you. And coming from someone who plays with trains too.

How can you be so sure about people when all you are doing is generalising. You miss a lot by doing that.

People who like the mac like it for OSX when it gets down to it and it's a pretty powerful OS when you want to do more then just control your applications.

As someone else has said, these arguments are pointless - and often driven by someone who isn't familiar with both camps.

Ask most people what make or type of PC they have, and they'll look at you blankly and shrug their shoulders.
I see. So they don't actually know what it is that they've bought. Which kind of suggests it's been bought because that's what everyone else has. :)
