Internet Explorer messed up.

Well I tryed all of the above(even removing IE8) But when IE is launching I noticed it is looking for a file in C:/Windows/system32 is this normal? Or could it be something left over from the virus I had?
Thanks!

Well I did some more mucking around in the settings...and I finally fixed it!

What I did was go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN Settings...Somehow it had gotten setup for using a proxy:o:eek::confused: So I unticked those option and presto it worked...:hehe: Wish I checked that option a few days ago >.<

However for some reason it is still using IE7 even with IE8 installed...and I cannot even get IE8 to run from it's exe.

That would have been the virus re-directing your internet connection. Good to hear it's sorted.

Thanks, wouldn't have been able to do it without all you guys helping me and giving me ideas.

Any clues why IE8 still doesn't want to work?
Thanks again,
Gandalf

Check add/remove programs in control panel. All I've got showing is IE8. I guess IE7 got replaced by it. Check which version you have, if it's 7 download 8 again + the updates.
I dont do technical, just blunder around till I find a solution.

I removed IE8 as suggested in earlier posts. Then redownloaded it and reinstalled it as well as all the updates etc...For me they do not show in Add/Remove programs, and the must be removed by a different way.

So IE7 is all you have in add/remove? Just using this as a means to find out whats installed.

No, internet Explorer doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs at all. I also found out what made the settings change to a proxy...I had installed IE8 again and immediately after doing so the settings were set to use a proxy:confused::o

Just checked my LAN settings, proxy server not ticked/selected. You may still have a piece of that virus lurking auto altering your settings.
Try a scan in safe mode, dont know whether it will make any difference though.

Well it only happens when I install IE8 once I change it back it stays at the settings I choose.

When I had problems with Internet Explorer, I went to the home page for either 7 or 8 and clicked the Support section. Not paying to call, don't trust Microsoft for email responses so I tried Discussion Groups. Actually got help there so long as I had all the details.

That should take you to the General section for IE. You will need a login or if you have a hotmail account, you can use that login. I can't find the topic I started where the uninstall IE8 procedure was listed else I would tell you to search for that but their search just doesn't find it.

You didn't know that that's how the "pros" do it? :D

Talk to any geek these days at on of those DIY PC stores, and this is what it seems like. ;)

Clearing cache

How do you clear the Cache in IE8?
Some website I use requires it and I run into problems unless this and something else is done (I did the other thing).

Good question, the newer versions of firefox and IE8 leave me scratching my head about the simple things that at one point were easy.

With IE8 open click on 'Tools' in the upper right hand corner then click on 'Internet Options' Click on the 'Delete' button in the 'Browsing HIstory' area of the middle of the dialogue box. If you want to you can put a tick in the box to delete your browsing history every time you close IE. Click apply to save the change if you decide to tick the box

Andy, thanks, that proves something about the website.
They keep telling me the same things to do, I do them and have the same problems and they respond that should do the same things.
I think their complaint service is an automatic recording despite having different people names.
