Installing A Module

I hope I can word this so it makes sense.

I have two computers, one I use online and the other is not internet capable which is the ONLY one I use for Trainz work. It is a laptop I use while I am getting my dialysis treatments.

I downloaded a small module to build around a couple of days ago, archived it and sent it to My Documents Folder then burned to a CD. The CD has the same amount of MG's on it as the Archived file. Several of the files were default files so they didn't archive as far as I can tell.

Now I tried installing it to the laptop computer and it doesn't show up in CMP or surveyor. I have another CD full of assets I burned several months ago that all I did was copy the contents into "Local" and they work fine.

If I open up the CD in my computer and double click on the icon it takes me to CMP and from there I am lost. If I try copying the CD into "Local" it doesn't work there either.

Any suggestions or help getting this on my laptop would be greatly appreciated.

What is the file extension on the files you are trying to import? If they are .CDP files, then you need to import them using CMP. If not, then post back.

Hi All;
I have a somewhat similar problem. My grandson and I are both running identical TRS-2006 versions, both purchased at the 2007 NMRA show in Detroit. His computer is a respectable machine and runs Trainz very reliably. He is 6 years old and does amazing things with the program such as 6-board layout with cliffs, valleys, ocean, bridges, scenery etc. Of course he is also prone to run fast trains up steep ramps and watch them fly into space.But I digress......
His computer has never been connected to the internet. So all of his content is 2006-default content.
In recent weeks I hand carried over to his house, via flash-drive, some Thomas-train CDP's which I had downloaded from the internet. (These Thomas engines and cars all run fine on my computer).
I used his CMP to import and commit the CDP's and all seemed to go as expected; The items show up in his CMP but sadly are nowhere to be found in his Surveyer.
He is a big Thomas fan and I promised him these assets for his trainz but so far I'm at a dead-end.
I'll be following this thread with great interest, hoping that some of the suggestions will also apply to my situation.

best regards, Ray

What does CMP say about the assets? If there is a peice of puzzle next to them with a question mark, then that means they are missing some assets.

Also, click on the Open for edit tab in his CMP, and if they are listed there, select them and hold CTRL and press M to commit them.

Well I finally managed to get the Module installed on my laptop, but you are not going to believe what caused my problem.

I had the "1880's Old West" layout on my desktop and for some reason or other when I archived the "Big City" module it archived the 1880's Old West layout and its assets instead of the Big City Module, even though it was titled correctly.

When I installed the Big City module on my laptop it installed the 1880's Old West layout. So after much thought I deleted both layouts from my desktop, re-downloaded the Big City Module, archived it, burned to a CD, installed to my laptop and it is now on my laptop with the exception of 3 missing assets the same as on my desktop.

It is really quite simple to transfer layouts or whatever from one computer to another I discovered.

1. Archive layout, etc
2. Save to desktop or in my case My Computer folder
3. Burn to CD
4. Open CD and double click on icon. From there it opens up CMP and click yes when asked if you want to download the assets. There will be in most cases a box open up telling you some of the assets are built in. Just close it an install the assets for the layout that installed from the DLS.

Rather simple actually.

Anyhow I want to thank all those that posted with suggestions concerning my original post.

Captain Collins;

Hi- Thanks for the response.

I recall that, Yes , there are some of the items that have a question mark in the puzzle icon. All of the CDP's did commit normally and indicated that they were commited. On the last visit, I picked out a few that did not exhibit missing dependencies, or question marks, etc.....but no joy; they were still not available in Surveyer.
He has never used his CMP ( to my knowledge ). I wonder if his CMP is OK. Perhaps I should reinstall his trainz. I'll be over to visit again in about a week or so and may discuss a reinstall with him; he is very wary that
Grandpop will wipe out his created layouts.
On the other hand maybe I should leave things as they are while he still thinks I know what I'm doing.

thanks again, Ray
