Insert spline points / invisible junctions

What is the best way to add spline points to existing track, especially in curves? I need to insert invisible junctions behind a number of signals, some of which are on a curved part of the track. If I simply add a spline point and connect some invisible track to it, the whole curve changes, thus messing up the layout.

Any tips on how to make this smoother/easier?

Thanks :)

Adding a spline point to a curve disrupts the geometry and there is a very good chance that a lever on a curve will show what appears to be reversed red/green arrows. They are not truly reversed, but often on a curve the diverging track kinks the wrong way for a short distance before resuming the intended curve.

The fix for both problems is to add one more vertex slightly before the one that distorted the curve, straighten the track between the two new vertexes and move the second one around till the curve looks better. That will also fix the lever direction. Of course your curve now has a straight section in it, but it is possible to make the straight bit very short...
