Hello Guys!
Innsbruck is a fantastic train town. The main double track standard gauge line comes from the east down the Inn valley from Munich over Kufstein. In Innsbruck one double track branch heads south toward Italy over the Brenner Pass (built around 1860) and another heads west toward Switzerland over the Arlberg Pass. A single track line (Mittelgebirgsline) heads north over the mountains to Germany (built around 1900). There is also an extensive 1 meter gauge street car line including various segments that extend into the country side. The original was steam powered (around 1890). Many of the lines have been expanded an a few taken down. There are (were) some great bridges (the mainline bridge over the Inn was built in about 1858 out of marble blocks and is the only original bridge still functioning on the Innsbruck-Munich line. There was also a rail cable car to the Hungerburg, which was recently replaced with a new stretch.
I'm a newbe to TrainZ and I think it's fantastic. I'm using TRS2004 and am learning gMax. I've started building the Innsbruck area around the 1920's. Many buildings and other structures were lost to bombings during the second world war. Old postcards and photographs are a godsend. I've built a few buildings (train station, various hotels around the Bahnhofsplatz, the Mühlau 2 track bridge over the Inn all around 1920. A spline for the 174 arches of the viaduct from the Inn bridge to the main train station and another for the river banking. It looks like it's going to be a forever project, but so far it's a lot of fun!
Request:
I don't want to reinvent the wheel, but I would like to build the 1900 steam locomotive and street cars (1 meter gauge). Does anyone have a 2 axel steam engine (i.e. Porter, etc.) that I could use as a basis to convert using gMax? I assume that the most difficult parts are the construction and animation of the drivers, sound, steam & smoke, etc.
Thank-you for your help,
TOM from Innsbruck
