Don't know if this is the right place for this, but here goes. I just finished building a new computer, and re-installing everything to a new HHD. I installed TRS 2004 first to SP 4, and added all the non-built in content I had before, including my to maps I have been working on. One piece of content is a bridge of mine that is also on the DL Station. It is obsolete and I have removed it for up grade, or so I thought. The old version runs fine in 2004, but when I re-installed TS 2009 and all the SPs to bring it up to date, and installed my content that I up dated to version 2.9, I found this bridge that showed not faulty, would not show in the viewer in surveyor, but was still on the map. The "start", and "end" of the spline were there, but not the middle parts. I worked on this problem for two days, trying everything I could think of to no avail. Then I tried copying the config file from 2009, back to 2004 changing only the version number from 2.9 to 2.4, and the bridge worked fine in 2004. I then tried changing the config file in 2009 to version 2.4, and the bridge worked fine. Now some one explain why?

It's simple but technical...

The specifications and error checking of Trainz versions has changed since TRS2004. In TRS2009, for example, the error checking is more strict and picks up on things that TRS2004 never caught. In fact TRS2004 like the earlier versions never caught a bug and would crash... As these specifications have changed, the newer versions have more different tags that are unheard of in the older versions, and or changed how the older ones work. This is why a 2.9 asset doesn't always load back into TRS2004 even if the version number is set to that version or earlier.

However...What N3V has done is to all older versioned assets to operate without error, however, if the build-number is changed to a newer version, such as your 2.9 from 2.4, then Content Manager will balk and not allow the asset to load because there are errors according to what the 2.9 version specifications allow. You will find this with any asset that has problems, but works okay with an older build number.

Now having said this... You might consider posting your errors here so other creators can help you. This would allow you to bring your content up-to-date and be error free.

Thanks for your help, what is needed is a CCG for 2009, 2010 and 2012 like I have for 2004, and 2006.

UP-DATEING Splines....
Track, Bridges, Fences, Roads, Vegetation if it is a spline this tut will fix it.
Takes some work ,but you can figure it out.

Thanks, This is a big help. I have been making my own content using Gmax for some time. Three of which have been on the DLS for quite a while. To help with the DLS clean up I have been up dating my content, two items are mocrossings and the other (this bridge) is a spline. The up load failed the last time with the message that It needed a "Preview Mash". I had no idea what that was, since splines don't use mashes. If they are going to make a major change like that, they should let the content creators know, and in a way that will get around since not every one reads all that is posted. Like providing a new CCG for the newer versions of Trainz. Well I will try what I read on your link and hope it will solve the problem. I am also having problems with junctions now showing up on my maps the way they were in the old computer. The junctions invisible road is there but now the visible graphic. It is in the preview window, and I had to delete the invisible road, and re-install the junction.

You need glasses :hehe:, It's a preview mesh...... Just use the default mesh.

Put simply.
Code:
mesh-table
{
  default
    {
      mesh "default.im" [COLOR=#ff0000][I]or what ever you called the main mesh[/I][/COLOR]
   }
preview-mesh
   {
     mesh                      "default.im"     [COLOR=#ff0000][I]as above[/I][/COLOR]
     auto-create             1
   }
}

track
{       and so on.........

Have a new question, I used to be able to take screen captures from with in Surveyor, and Driver using the Print screen key, and view them in Photo Impact. Last time I did this was on my old computer with windows 7 pro. The new computer still has Win7 Pro. I just tried it to night, and I get a solid Black picture, or a pic of the desk top. I need a thumbnail of one of my content items to use in the item. All content that is up loaded to the DLS now must have thumbnails. I lost the Gmax mesh file or I could get a capture of the rendered Mesh in Gmax. Can any one help?

If you were trying to use the clipboard? that does not work. Prt Scr button save the screenshot as a jpg in TS12\Userdata\screenshots and any image program will open it.

Or Pev's Mesh Viewer will make a thumbnail of the mesh to the correct size. http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php/home/utilities/pevsoft-trainz-tools

I thank you for your help, But when did they change this? I have been using Print Screen Key to clipboard to make Captures of my content for some time. This problem has only show up since I got the new computer.
I just checked the program listings for both 2004, and 2009, and as many times as I have before I never noticed they had a screenshots folder there. On checking the folders I found the captures I had made early. ( pulling hair out in frustaton )
I have Pev's Programs on my system, but have not had much chance to use them yet. One I did try didn't work. Oh! well learn something new every day.

The screenshots folder is now located under your userdata/screenshots

Mine for example is in D:\N3V\TS12\UserData\screenshots

Thanks John, Although I have 2012, I have not installed it on the new computer yet. 2004, and 2009 don't have a UserData file, the screenshot folder is a sub-folder of the main program folders and easer to find.

Ah, the old simpler way of doing things. :)

If you're not getting a screen shot when pressing the Print Screen key, it maybe your keyboard. Some keyboards require that you press a function key too to enable a print screen. These keyboards are usually found on laptops, but are also sometimes used on desktops too. The key is marked Fcn or FN and usually has blue colored text.

There is nothing wrong with my Print Screen Key, It is just that the Captures are going to the Screen Shots Folder instead of the clip Board like it use too.

Well that's normal action for the program then.

Try a control+printscreen and see if that works. Just guessing...

Forgot to add... There is a utility that comes with Windows 7 and up called the Snipping Tool. This allows for screen captures by letting you place a marquee around the screen area you want to capture. I use this all the time and it works great.

Ok! I have another question. There is a World Origin Marker that you can place on your map in surveyor, and set to the Lon. and lat. of your map in the real world. I went to my location in Google Earth which shows the Lo, Lat where ever you move your cursor on the ground. My map is of my home town in Ohio, and I picked a spot on Main ave which was Lat 41 deg, 52’, and 13.49", by Lon. 80 deg, 46’, and 49.57". Now I assumed that was reasonably accurate, and I could use it to set the world Origin on my map. But when I went to set the figures into the W.O.Marker it had an entry for Degrees, and the second box would not accept the min & sec. How do I set this where it will give the proper values in the Tripods that you can place anywhere on the map the LO & LA of other places. I want to use this to a line my roads and track to match the real world.

It's degrees and decimal minutes. On line converter here http://www.directionsmag.com/site/latlong-converter/
Thank you for your response. That converter is great to bad it is not downloadable, it gives both conversions, Degrees minutes decimal, and Degrees Decimal. The world origin in surveyor requires Degrees Minutes Decimal. I tried to find a download able one I could use off line, as I have a lot of conversions to do, but the other ones only converted to Degrees Decimal. So I ended up doing the conversion on my calculator once I knew what to do.
