Industry Link object - how to make it work?

Description:
Surveyor-only scenery item. Can be configured to transfer products from one industry to another. Select both industries, then the product to be transferred.

Having a spot of bother with this. I place the object (a yellow cube) near an industry, open the properties panel using the ? button. I can select industries A and B alright. Clicking then on the product link, a list box comes up which is supposed to show all the available products, but it is empty, so I can't choose one. Manually typing in a product name doesn't work either.

If anyone has experience with it, can you give me some hints on how to make it work? I'm sure it's simple, but I just don't get it.

BTW, it's for TRS2004 and that's what I'm using. I'm trying to make 2 Multi-Industry New tracks talk to each other.

I can't help with this yet, but I would like to use this item (thanks for bringing it to my attention) and I will have a go at it, and let you know how I get on.
One suggestion, do you already have your product added to MIN A?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Thanks for taking an interest. It could be a really useful object if only it would work. My set up is this;

Industry A is actually in a river and set up to receive and consume Ammonium Nitrate Bulk from some barges.

Industry B is on a nearby wharf and set up to produce and deliver Ammonium Nitrate Bulk to a train.

Until the barges come and dump their load, Industry A has zero tonnes of material in it, but it is all set up to handle Ammonium Nitrate Bulk as described. Industry B has some of that material in stock, but is not 100% full to its capacity.

What I'd like to achieve is a virtual transfer of product from the river to the wharf using the Industry Link, such that the wharf's holdings depend on deliveries from the barges, rather than production from "thin air".

I should also mention that industries A and B are not physically connected by a track, but I get the same failure to list products with other pairs of Multi Industry New tracks that are connected. So I suspect that isn't the issue.

Regardless of whether an industry has some material in it, I would have thought the Industry Link would at least detect all the products I have installed. There are no instructions with this asset and you'll find that the author's (MiZi's) web page no longer exists, so it's a bit hard to know how to use his fine invention..

I set up MIN A to consume Coal from a delivering freight train. I set up MIN B to consume Coal, leaving the vehicle setting in the Products tab at "none" (what else could it be?)

The Industry Link recognized MINs A and B, and gave me Coal as a product. Seems you have to put the products you want to transfer into both MINs A and B before you set up the link.

That's as far as I've got so far, my setup is rather strange. I am trying to unload only one wagon from a train of five, at each of five consuming MIN's. It works but only once, (on the second trip the wagons won't unload) and I was hoping I could use the Industry Link to empty out these MINs so that it would continue to work endlessly with each visit of the coal train. I'll let you know my progress. I'm using TRS06 with SP1.

Was going to have a look at it and have a play but can't even download it as the external link to the site has gone down.

Edit: Got it doing it the old way, add to cart, the getting TRS04 to download and install, will have a look... ;)

I had no problem downloading it with CMP, but I couldn't get it to do what I want, so I'm afraid I'm going to back out of this one at least for now, lots of other stuff to do on my route! Good luck!

I've linked the PL industries without a third asset easily. The setup is virtually built-in.

It works a dream for break-of-gauge interchange arrangements so it should work similarly for rail/barge setups.

Yes, I can confirm that now. As Mick said earlier, the trick is to have a non-zero amount of the product in stock in both industries A and B before the product will appear in the selection box.

I note that it doesn't bring up a list of every product you have installed, contrary to what I was expecting, only the one (or ones?) you have made active in the linked industries.

I think this is the only thread on the English Forum that discusses how Industry Link works, so I hope it helps others to make use of it. Many thanks all.

Yeah I had a quick play with this last night, placed 2 M.I.N's beside each other, setup the first one for 20ft containers, didn't worry about the processes for the time being. Just gave it a size of 200 then set the initial amount to 150, next setup the second one for 20ft containers also, then set the size. Linked the 2 and straight away seen that the second M.I.N took all the initial amount away from the first.

Played a little with numbers, changed the size of the second to 100, it gave back some to the first one.

This has me thinking, wonder if this could be used as a straight "transfer" type setup where one train could deliver a product to one M.I.N and another train could pickup the product from a second M.I.N.

Only thing being is that I am not sure if you may recieve an error if no processes are set for the M.I.N when entering driver.

Will have to play more... :)

Looks like it could be useful, but I'm not going near it until it's on the DS proper.

External link download?
No thanks.

If you want transfer product from one industry to another, the LARS & ProtoLARS industries already have that option by default without having to use the separate link. You can even have one product come in and produce another product at the same or another industry.

I don't use the LARS/ProtoLARS industries, not that I hate them it is just because I started using the M.I.N (Multiple Industry New) as it was a builtin item and does the job very nicely once it is setup.

I know that it can be a daunting task, hence the reason why I have Tutorials on my site on how to setup/configure the M.I.N correctly.

The M.I.N and the industry link rule work well when needed.

A heap of PLs are built-in (and there are also built-in Aussie PL industries such as the NSW Goods Sheds, Aussie Intermodal and Aussie General Goods) in '06.

Once I started using the PLs, I found their progressive loading option far more prototypical than the MINs "load-everything-in-one-go" arrangement.

Hello,

Just curious ... do you have a link to that tutorial?

thanks

Hmmm...my old thread suddenly resurrected.

Totally agree with Smiley. External links are a P.I.T.A. - almost as bad as third party websites in my opinion.

Anyone know if the author (MiZi) is still around? Has anyone written to him to ask that the asset be put on the DLS properly?

Can someone make a similar item and upload it? Those of us who like MIN's really need it, and I can't upload my route if I don't have a Link asset to make the sessions work.
