Andrew I hope you do not mind me including my post at VicTrainz here.
Your old man was a true Aussie Gentleman! He will live on for a long time here and at VicTrainz, because we all will remember our friend for as long as we are able to.
As Secretary of VicTrainz I report this sad news....
I have just returned from a short holiday in Queensland.
Whilst unpacking I got a call from our friend Zec, and being an old fella of 65, still a few years short of Bill, I misheard the name of the caller, and who had passed away.
Young Zec was emotional, and within a few seconds I realised who he was and what he was saying. (My hearing is not so good, damaged in Vietnam, and further hurt by 30 years on the railway)
I guess at our age it is easier to hear of the passing of a friend. In truth it is to be expected. I also think that when we reach a certain age, we thank God for allowing us to live a long life, and meet so many wonderful people. We thank him too, for our wonderful family and for the enjoyment and the love we were able to give and receive during this long life.
We thank him for the extra time he gives us, and we do not think too much about the end.
Listening to Zec and feeling his emotion over the phone, I thought of Bills family especially the younger ones, and knowing him as a very nice fellow, I tried to think of how they would be feeling and a way to make things better for them. It is not an easy chore to set oneself.
Bill was a great man of great character with a clever mind which he was fortunate to keep to the end. When we were talking together over the early years of VicTrainz, we were both disappointed with the lack and quality of Victorian content in Trainz and frustrated with the lack of competent builders . I spent a year trying to learn 3D building and gave up.
Bill never gave up, and with Andrews help, not only learned to build in 3D, he jumped off the deep end, and built a steam engine. We had both helped Jetstreamski start to build the first Victorian engine, the R Class.
I remember Bill mailed his copy of R for Hudson to Allan in Canada (I think) And I believe I replaced Bill's book when I found one on E-Bay. Unfortunately life stepped in, Allan left Trainz for other things, but before he left he gave Bill and I all the work that he had done on the R Class, which was the start of Bills foray into 3D building.
Bill, I was really envious of your ability to master this program, especially as you were 10 years older than me. I could no longer blame age for my inability to do this stuff, I began to understand, I was just too dumb to pick it up

I enjoyed Bills company at VicTrainz meets, and we met at AMRA Exhibitions every year. I was indeed, looking forward to our meet in August. I am pretty certain that you will be still there.
Bill has passed over, and we all suspect that he has had a good life. Forever I will remember the smiling face and the old English car that he so loved.
To the young ones here on these forums, I want you to know something that I truly believe....
Bill has not left us, he has just moved into another room! Surely their is no real door between our rooms, but he is there and he is watching over us, because we are part of his family and his friends.
Just as Bill brought us great joy over these last years, we also brought him great joy.
Bill continues on as a part of the Victrainz family, and he continues to be there with us, because our memories keep him alive for us.
Thank you Bill for making my life a little bit better. Thank you for being my (our) friend.
I believe Bill has made arrangements for his work to be left to one of our members so that it can be upgraded to operate in the newer versions of Trainz as they come along.
This will be a fitting memorial to the man we are talking about here. I do hope Zec is allowed to continue with the upgrades that he started with Bill.
Friends don't be sad for Bill, he has only gone to the other room, which I believe is surely a better place

Cheers
Rod Young
