In-cab view AI locos don't reverse

stationmistress

By comparison JAFA
Whilst using cab view in AI in various locomotives. i.e. those that have only a forward looking view whether going forwards or backwards, reverse works opposite to that expected. Pulling into a station to unload/load or just stop they will not reverse out, rather they will continue forward after the stop and complain about waiting for clearance. This also happens trying to reverse into a station under AI. Use any other view and AI works as it should.
Locos tried include steam, Class 43 power cars and the like.
I've even tried changing laying of track in opposite directions.
Any ideas anyone?

I usually use a 'wait for' instruction then give the next instruction. Sometimes I need to use a trackmark to coax a reluctant driver to obey. You Can also use the change direction command.
cheers,
Mike

I've noticed that since TS2010 SP3, drivers don't like to run backwards. I found this out the hard way when I used some cab-cars on my commuter trains. I had the locomotive on one end and the cab on the other just like many commuter railroads run things today unless they use DMUs or EMUs, but for locomotive pulled trains, it's the remote cab on the end of the train that's very common place.

When used in Trainz, however, the AI drivers go through great lengths to get themselves facing forward and will start driving the wrong way, backing up then going the wrong way again. I found though if I used an actual locomotive on the opposite end of the train, the drivers wouldn't do that.

I've tried wait for with no luck, likewise trackmarks. I tried just using a cab with various commands.
Set-up 1: Go to mark 1, reverse to mark 2, reverse to station. Result: Mark 1 ok, mark 2 ok and then back over mark 1 into the blue yonder.
Set-up 2: Cab first into terminus over mark. Result: Forward into buffers and sticks.

@JCitron
This is 2009 SP3. I'll try it with a double cab on one end.

That's interesting...I never updated the SPs on TS2009 and went directly to TS2010 and up, so TS2009 SP3 is similar to TS2010 SP3, perhaps.

What you are seeing is the same results I've run into with the cabs.

Good news. I've got a single cab loco to reverse. I made a clone of my Class 43 and using PEV's Attachment maker added another attachment, a.cabback and located it at the rear of the power unit. Purists wouldn't like it but for my own benefit it works. I can now take a single cab unit train onto a turning triangle and reverse into the station and out again all in AI.
BTW Before coming up with this idea, I found that if two trackmarks are on the same section of track, i.e. no points in between and no repeat set, a single cab will reverse one time only.

To add a second cab to a single cab locomotive, a.cabback should be in the same location and have the same orientation as a.cabfront.

I did that and was staring at the rear bulkhead of the cab during reverse. Besides, this is only to stop my frustration at using an external view to keep going. At the end of 700 miles I just wanted it to start the return journey under AI.
